Soul Cycle and Equinox Boycott

Anyone cancelling their Soul Cycle or Equinox Membership?

News of an upcoming fundraiser for President Trump at the swanky Hamptons home of billionaire Stephen Ross drew swift backlash Wednesday from prominent customers of Ross’s luxury fitness brands and a player for the Miami Dolphins, the National Football League franchise Ross owns.

Some high-profile LGBTQ activists and celebrities took to social media to call for a boycott of Equinox Fitness clubs and SoulCycle over the fundraiser, which was organized to support Trump’s reelection and comes with a price tag as high as $250,000 for an audience with the president.

“Hey @Equinox - what’s your policy for canceling memberships once a member finds out your owner is enabling racism and mass murder?” comedian Billy Eichner tweeted Wednesday afternoon. He followed up later with a tweet saying he had canceled his membership.

NeverTrump conservative here and quitting Equinox. It’s disappointing but it’s tainted for me now.

I love Equinox. The founder is free to support whatever political platform he chooses. I’m not canceling my gym membership over it but would be happy if this led to less crowded classes.

I also eat at Chick Fil A every once in a while. It’s the least gross fast food chain so it’s what I’ll choose when I’m on the road (plus, my kids love it).

The owner of 405 Yoga in DC abruptly closed the studio to run for a Republican seat in Congress. I am glad I never gave a dollar to the place even though I live in the neighborhood and was searching for a new yoga community. Something just felt off about the place, even though a couple of teachers I respected from other studios also taught there. The clientele was mostly white and upper class in a neighborhood that most definitely was not, but I do think there were some who truly believed in yogic values. I feel sorry for all the people who feel betrayed and ripped off.

Per the Washingtonian:

"If you’re in the DC area and find yourself between a SoulCycle bike and a hard place—you really want to work out at a nice studio, but you also really want to uphold your principles—Elevate Interval Fitness is here to help.

The studio, which hosts cardio and strength circuit classes, will donate $20 to either the progressive group Swing Left or the Democratic National Committee on behalf of each new client that joins."

I switched my Equinox membership for Vida Fitness. There are enough good options around that don't involve my money enriching the pockets of a leader who does not share my values.

You guys realize this guy has nothing to do with the actual running of these organizations right? He is an investor with a company who owns a stake of something that owns a share of etc... It’s nice you are trying to be a vigilante but the only people you are hurting are the low paid people who actually work at these institutions. I heard the front desk staff at SoulCycle in Bethesda was being harassed yesterday. Unbelievable.

Cancelled. I try not to give my money to anyone who supports trump or the current GOP cult. I was a Republican most of my life. This is not the party I once supported.

he's got two seats on the board of directors-- might even be the chair according to one report. No excuse for harassing the employees but the suggestion "he's just a passive investor" is a complete lie

The Board of Directors of his own organization. He has absolutely nothing to do with the running of the company. I’m not a Trump supporter by any means but honestly we are all living in a capitalist world. None of us are blameless in the way that you are implying we are. These guys run everything.

No-- soul cycle is entirely owned by his company and when it looked into spinning off he was going to have at least two board seats on the new company. It's not the same as just saying he kicked in a few million to Momofuku.
