Soul Cycle and Equinox Boycott

The problem for soul cycle / equinox is not that a boycott will be widespread or damaging, it’s just that they’re selling “experiences” and “lifestyle” and that doesn’t go with Donald Trump. Soul cycle is so cult-y and about feelings, and this puts a bad taste in the air just when people are shelling out to feel healthy or whatever. Will that brand damage hurt the bottom line? Or maybe better question is will that brand damage hurt the bottom line more than huge corporate tax cuts that hugely increase the deficit? I wouldn’t think so.

After four uninterrupted years of membership at equinox I have cancelled my membership and so did some of the people I took classes with . I liked equinox, I made friends there , I liked my trainer and up until the fundraiser thing I couldn't see myself working out anywhere else . In my class on any given day they were at least six nationalities Cameroon,Iran,Pakistan,Romania,France,Ethiopia, Cambodia and of course USA ( that's just the minimum) . we are dentists, consultants,lawyers,entrepreneurs, oncologists which is how and why we could afford the $200/month memberships to begin with .We are straight, gay,married , stay at home moms and what not .

The demographic composition of my class was made up of the very people whom Trump or what his movement has come to represent think of as the enemy. My class is made up of the ' they need to go back" crowd white supremacist like Trump are gleefully pushing .

I'm proud of myself and others for how easily and quickly we simply decided to cut equinox loose. Mr Ross can fundraise for whoever the hell he wishes just as some of us can choose to act accordingly .No company is entitled to our dollars . The false equivalency and fatalism of arguing that you can't boycott everything is laughable or Dare I say pitiful . My predictions are as follows ; because equinox is heavily reliant on liberal and rich cities such as DC,LA,NYC,SF,MIAMI. If the boycott is sustained and last and there's plenty of reasons to think it will, a sale could occur in the near future .As for me I have no intention of returning as long Mr Ross' Related companies owns Equinox .This isn't about me per as, it's about the Jews,Latinos ,AAs,Muslims and others whom this administration think should be relegated to some kind of second class status ( if that )

Lots and lots of people cancelling their membership. Staff pissed that they have to be associated with a Trump loved and won’t make their membership incentives that pay their salary.

My husband and I canceled our Equinox memberships last week. I had a long discussion with the club manager and she was very emotional and said it was tough because most of the people who work at Equinox did not even remotely relate to Trump's hateful rhetoric. Ross absolutely has the right to support whoever he chooses but that doesn't mean that I have to provide financial support for his values that so completely clash with mine.

You don't seem to understand how capitalism works. The club manager and employees may get different jobs. Ross's investment is a sunk cost at this point. And this taints other brands that he's invested in. The bad press has probably cost him a ton in terms of valuation, at least short term.

If so many people are cancelling their memberships, why is the yoga class I want to take tomorrow morning booked? There are 10+ members ahead of me on the waitlist. If I cancel Equinox, it will be because I hate the class booking policies.

it is not a consumer's job to be worried about the job of an employee. You're a liar if you tell me that you've specifically patronized a business with the singular hope that your purchase would help someone keep their job. You either know nothing about the free market ( 99% sure its the case here) or you're just being a mendacious troll.
