I am cross posting this here, special concerns , and in jobs . Is there anyway as a fed I can add my ex spouse to my health insurance?
The cost of cobra takes away from money available for our child. |
| No |
| Its not taking away money from your child. You get child support based off a formula. It wouldn't change your child support amount. He is on your insurance as COBRA. You cannot add an ex-spouse to your insurance. You'd have to remarry him. |
ex has finite amount of money. Ex has health issues and needs insurance. I said nothing about support. The crazy cost of cobra does impact EXs ability to provide for our child. |
| Nope |
Did your ex look at the Obamacare exchanges? They typically have open season in December, but for people with a "qualifying event" (like losing or quitting a job or having a change in family circumstances) the exchanges are open all year. For example, if your exDH is on COBRA because he lost his job, he can shop on the exchange for health insurance. If he currently has no job/income or is only receiving unemployment, that means his income may even be low enough to qualify for Medicald or a reduced rate on health insurance. Worth a look at least, because COBRA is almost always more expensive than health insurance on the exchange. Of course, there may be other reasons to keep COBRA if more expensive (has he already fulfilled deductible? has a health condition for which he needs to see certain doctors?) |

You can get married again. Otherwise she's not your dependent and can't go on your insurance.

Are you officially divorced? Do you have a support agreement?
There is no way to add your non-family member to your insurance. |
| Instead of Cobra, why not get a new job with health insurance? Is he unemployed? |
He hadn’t thought of this. Getting right on it |

I know a couple who did this when the ex spouse had a terminal cancer diagnosis. They remarried so the ill spouse could get the needed medical care. I believe they also took care of some things with regard to their wills to take into account their circumstances.
