DS walked in on us!

We were in the bathroom and he knocked on the door asking if I was OK. He didn’t see anything but heard!! He is 9 and asked ne about it later with a smirk on his face. I was casual and said I was stretching while dad was showering and to not invade our privacy. Has this happened to others?? Help!

You need to learn to be quieter while your kids are awake.

He’ll be fine. You’ll be fine. Good reminder to lock the door going forward.

Yes. ALWAYS lock the door. Not locking it is like playing with fire.

What consenting adults do behind closed doors is none of your business.

What help are you asking for? Sounds like the conversation is over, as it should be.

Um ... ok.

He’s 9. Doesn’t he know about sex? Why can’t you just say that mommy and daddy were having sex and that it is private?

I don’t know, OP. He obviously knew what you were doing. It sounds like he was uncomfortable hearing sex noises from his parents and knocked to get you guys to stop.

Nobody is buying your “stretching” excuse. You can either have a conversation like an adult or hide behind bathroom yoga stretches. I think it’s fine to tell him you and DH are adults and intimacy is part of married life. Respecting your privacy is important. You should also be aware of who can hear you. It’s disrespectful to your children to have loud sex when they’re in the house. Respect goes both ways.

Are you a screamer?

And, the thread can end right here with this amazing advice.

Teach him some manners, e.g., knock on closed door and do not come in until he is told "come in"! You also need to lock door if you're having sex.

Seems to me that dad should be in charge of this convo with DS, not mom.

This is OP. Obviously I wasn’t screaming and this was an accident. Our bathroom is off of our master bedroom. We thought the door was locked and we thought we were being quiet. DS came in to get something and that’s when he heard us. I guess I was looking for empathy and a little reassurance that I didn’t scar my kid for life. I don’t need advice about locking doors. It was a mistake.
