You didnt scar him for life. But I would carefully consider what messages you're sending about sex by choosing to lie rather than have an honest conversation. Down the road you'll want him to feel comfortable talking to you, and don't want to send the message that sex is shameful, cant be talked about openly, and that he should hide and lie.

Do NOT tell your kids you were having sex. No kid wants to hear that. It’s fine to say what you are doing in the bathroom is private, because it is.
