I keep thinking about a scene from an older movie where the actress delivers a monologue while peeling an onion. The monologue ends with her saying something like 'now there's nothing left' and the onion is gone too. Anyone have any idea what movie this is? |
I googled what you wrote, and Like Water for Chocolate came up. |
+1. I've seen it and that's the start of the move. |
+2 |
OP-- no that's not it. Hmmm.... she's le doing performance art if I remember correctly. |
Wtf is wrong w me that I thought this was going to be an S&Mish post about some fetish involving onion cutting/the resulting tearing up and eye pain, and I still clicked on it. AND was disappointed that I didn’t get to learn of some new kink that weirdos have. |
I can totally picture the scene you're talking about. I feel like it was Geena Davis playing some sort of cut-throat producer or something, and she was giving a speech and cutting the onion? But I just did a search for that and came up with nothing. Sorry! |
Well, I’m guessing you have an interesting browser history! |
Omg! Yes... thre movie about the plane crash w/ Dustin Hoffman.Thank you!!! |
Or you could go the horror movie route and think this is some Silence of the Lamb type reference. |
You're right. It's Geena Davis in the movie Hero. from imdb: In the movie, after receiving an award, Gail Gayle mentions "Life is like an Onion, you peel away and the story becomes different, but when you peel everything away, everything is all a lie" as part of her News acceptance award speech. |
Woot!! I was the PP who suggested Geena Davis! If only there was a way to monetize my memory for random details from old 80s and 90s movies, b/c my poor, aging, peri-menopause foggy brain is FULL of them! But I can't remember where I put my reading glasses. ![]() ![]() |
Hero with Dustin Hoffman, Geena Davis and Andy Garcia... one of my favorite movie scenes
|
Well done! I, too, have a brain full of trivia about 80s and 90s movies and my aging brain can't remember where I put my phone. Solidarity! |
The Geena Davis peeling an onion scene is from when she was speaking on stage after being presented an award at a broadcaster ceremony, which was from the movie "Hero" with Dustin Hoffman |
