Do teachers get drug tested?

I’m actually surprised that there haven’t been a lot of legal challenges to this. I’m also surprised the taxpayers are willing to foot the bill.

I was drug tested for DCPS when I was hired four years ago but not since.

Not in the districts I’ve worked in. Just fingerprinted. I can’t imagine they would have the $$$ to do that for every new hire.

I doubt they are only testing for weed. Most people would care about harder drugs at least.

No drug testing of any kind in MCPS. But we do have FBI fingerprinting and background checks.

I believe it is the same for FCPS. I have never been drug tested.

I’m a new hire and just went through this process. Yes, after you are nominated you have to get a drug test within a window (I believe it was about two weeks) before you can get your official offer letter. I remember there being some language around medical marijuana if you have a card or that applies to you, but yes they do test. It doesn’t appear that there are more tests beyond that unless there is reason to suspect you are under the influence on the job or something like that.

But marijuana is one of the easiest substances to test for, and it's all just a charade about student safety and quality instruction.

Also, I don't do drugs.
