I'm not sure that's a wise decision.

Isn’t pot legal in DC now? Why (legally speaking) would it matter?

Schools received federal funds. Most teachers also got some federal student aid, which they may be in repayment for.

Question- if you smoke weed in a state where it is legal while on vacation and then have to take an employer mandated test is that a violation? Seems like this could easily happen.

Yes, an employee can decide not to hire based on marijuana usage, state condoned or not. This has come up in Colorado numerous times. You may not use marijuana while working for Air Canada, though it is legal for adults in Canada. The DC government will not allow employees to have active medical marijuana prescriptions, even though there is no evidence that when used at home it is any more impairing than moderate alcohol use. Essentially, drug users are not a protected class.

Above should say “Employer can decide not to hire.”

If you are an employee of the state of MD, even though it is legal for medicinal, you are not allowed to use it and they do drug test.

Yes, after you are nominated you have to get a drug test within a window (I believe it was about two weeks) before you can get your official offer letter. I remember there being some language around medical marijuana if you have a card or that applies to you, but yes they do test. It doesn’t appear that there are more tests beyond that unless there is reason to suspect you are under the influence on the job or something like that.

Which district?

DCPS.
