We usually give our nanny 28-30 hours per week and plan to give her a minimum of 28 hours after DD starts her 3x morning per week 2s program this fall. We don’t need this many hours of childcare so what else should I have her do? She already folds the family laundry and wipes the kitchen counters etc. Should I have her grocery shop? Teach her how to cook my way? Have another baby to keep her occupied? |
I'm not understanding--your kid is only in school for 9 hours a week, so it shouldn't be hard to fill your nannies schedule with childcare duties unless you're not working full-time.
3 preschool days=11:30-6 p.m. 3 days a week =6.5*3=19.5 hours 2 full days=9-6=9*2=18 hours so here you have 38 hours. |
Yes, grocery shop and do full family laundry. |
You stop nickle and diming and pay her for 28 hours. Do not add housekeeping tasks if you want to keep her.
Your kid will not be at school 3 days a week every week, there will be holidays, sick days and snow days. You want her to be available for those hours/days so be nice and don't add more work. ( former Nanny and now a parent) |
Our nanny took on house management (no cleaning) and did all our grocery shopping, ordering supplies, and scheduled the cleaning company. She also volunteered at my son’s preschool while on the clock. |
Clean windows, beat carpets, paint porch. Mow lawn, rake leaves. After all, she is your slave and you want your money's worth. Lady, you're going to be looking for a new nanny very soon! |
Ask her what she thinks. |
Wash your own underpants and sexy time sheets, that’s not what nannies do! |
Is she responsible for transporting your child to and from preschool? Is she expected to be available should child be not well enough to attend preschool, or need to be picked up from preschool early due to illness? |
This is what I did, with occasional dinner prep (specific veggies chopped or throwing something premised in the oven at a specific time). It also allowed me time to make special snacks and activities for after school. I am a nanny and would absolutely not start washing your personal bedding or anything of the like. |
This sounds like a great reason to have another baby ![]() |
Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor anymore? Obviously the OP was kidding. |
+1 People should check out the nanny forum thread about some "nanny" who deals with the husband's skid-marked underpants. Some parents have no shame. |
+2. I was never asked, nor would I have ever done, my employers laundry or cleaning. I was happy to manage the house and do family grocery shopping. I am also a former teacher and was able to do a storytime at my charge’s preschool. |
We plan to keep our nanny when our youngest starts morning nursery school. We need someone to cover sick days for both children, and do the school runs. We will probably drop our dogwalker and have her handle that, and have her take on more household management tasks like ordering groceries, organizing cupboards, errands that are close to home, etc. |
