My son was on the waitlist for the DC Lottery. He gained seats in both schools. I'd like to get some feedback regarding the school's values, academics, and overall experience. Pros and cons, I'm open to hear it all.

| They're literally on opposite sides of the city. Where do you live? |
Op here, I'm aware. We live in NW. However, we are willing to travel if one outweighs the other. |
| Takoma for sure. JO Wilson has been having a tough time lately. |
It's only preschool. It makes zero sense to hike to a different ward. Go to the one closer to your house. |
This is our decision. If you don't agree with it or don't have any feedback of the schools I mentioned, please don't comment at all. No, it's not preschool. These are elementary schools for our 2nd grader. We care about our child's education and well-being whether it was preschool or not. |
Thank you for your comment. What's going on with JO Wilson if you don't mind me asking? |
Perhaps the PP is referring to this thread. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/801530.page |
| What’s your inbound ES that you are trying to avoid? |

For feedback on Takoma Education Campus, you might consider contacting the PTO at PTO.takomaec@gmail - they may be able to give you answers, though your questions are fairly broad.
As a Takoma parent (elementary school, not PK), I can say we’ve been very happy with our experience. TEC preaches a “meet every kid where they are” academic style and for the most part, we have found that to be true for our child. It’s a small school (2 classes, sometimes 3 per grade), so I feel like all the teachers know and care for our child. I have always felt my child is safe and loved while at school. The culture is very welcoming and diverse. TEC has about 1/3 English language learners and a a fair number of new to the country immigrants. Sending our kid to our neighborhood elementary school has been a very positive experience. The one concern is the feeder pattern, but I remain hopeful that the new MS and revamped Coolidge will become schools of choice for the neighborhood as well. Good luck with your choice! |
| Stuart-Hobson is more of a known entity than Wells. But JOW is getting a new principal next year and has had some drama. I think they're both good schools and without knowing more about your kid and why you think his IB school doesn't work, I'd just go with the shorter commute. The only way to make a better choice than that would be to talk with the specific teacher your kid would have at each school and see who is a better fit. |
