New Instructional Superintendent

Supposedly he is in charge of application schools. Anyone know about the charges he had against him in NJ? How did he get this job? I didn’t read an announcement. Are they trying to keep his hiring under wraps?

Do you mean Gerard "Jerry" Jellig? He most recently worked at KIPP DC as the principal of KIPP Will. It's the lowest performing of the KIPP campuses at 46 on the PMF. It's been declining for the last couple of years.

The way the web page reads it seems like he left KIPP a few years ago and has been in NJ.

He must have recently left KIPP for DCPS. He is still listed on the KIPP website and on the PCSB site as the KIPP principal.

He's made a lot of moves ...

Arriving in New Jersey 2014 http://www.centraljersey.com/archives/south-brunswick-jellig-s-era-begins-in-school-district/article_65793a95-628f-50bf-b50d-5b908db42f69.html

Hmmm... perhaps you need to do screening and background checking for schools. Lots of moves - not good. Declining performance - terrible. Moving to ever- increasing responsibilities - why?? Performance and stability don’t seem to matter. He must have other strengths.

Oh wow (from the Patch.com article):

"Teachers cited mismanagement of funds, poor management, anti-unionism, tension and just an overall lack of morale in the two years since Jellig came on as superintendent in 2014."

THIS is who Ferebee hires?!?

I'm sorry, I was willing to give him a chance, but should we really be surprised that someone who apparently mis-managed funds and apparently set Indianapolis on a declining path, then turns around and hires someone who . . .wait for it . . . mis-manages funds and sets the schools he touches on a declining path.

I know it's a tight labor market, but this seems to really be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Don't forget about Ferebee downplaying a teacher's sexual assault of a student and trying to hide it from the police until after the Indy school board approved his raise!

After reading the article linked below, his hiring makes perfect sense. DCPS leaders thrive off of intimidating teachers, making poor spending choices, and playing the favorites game.

"Since Jellig took office in 2014, the entire culture in the school district has changed, said one teacher, who did not want to give her name for fear of retribution.

"There has been mismanagement of funds; he doesn't honor the teachers' contract, he's made poor spending choices," chimed in another teacher, who also wanted to remain anonymous. "He promotes only people he likes and demotes those he doesn't. The whole morale of the district is in the toilet."

Female teachers in the district also report feeling intimidated and uncomfortable, they both said, but said they don't have any more details on that.

Both teachers said they want to see the Board of Ed. fire Jellig. He was given a five-year contract when hired, and still has three years remaining.

The Board of Ed. meets inside the school at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Patch is here covering the meeting, where John Lolli, president of the teachers' union, is expected to speak about Jellig before the board. Jellig does not appear to be at the meeting."
