Camden aquarium: is it safe to go there?

Anonymous
I was thinking our family could stop and see the aquarium in Camden. DH says Camden isn’t safe and that we should skip it. Has anyone been there recently? Is it safe?

Isn't Camden the heroin capital of the US? I don't know that for sure, it's what I heard. Can anyone confirm?

NJ resident here. Camden is one of the most dangerous, if not THE most dangerous city in the country. There are plenty of other aquariums to go to in this country. There is no need to go to Camden.

We love adventure aquarium. You are not going to the hood. The aquarium has its own parking lot by the water. Don’t listen to these people. Go and have a great time.

We go in the morning and leave after lunch usually.

I've been in the past year and the area seemed safe enough (I've been to rougher parts of Camden). However, in my opinion it is not a very good aquarium. It felt like a food court with some fish displays, as you have to keep walking through the concessions to see different exhibits. We were driving through over the holidays and there were Christmas decorations under the water, a scuba-diving Santa, and some sort of bubble cannon dropping "snow" on the visitors. Our then-two year old loved everything.

This thread seems a bit dramatic to me. We went after Thanksgiving last year (were visiting family in Philly) and it was fine. The kids (ages 1-4) loved it. As a PP mentioned the aquarium has its own lot. If I recall correctly the area right by the aquarium seemed to be somewhat revitalized. We were coming up 95 so we went right over the Ben Franklin Bridge to the aquarium. You don't have to drive through the city if you go that way.

NJ native here. I went to the Camden aquarium last year. While Camden definitely has blighted areas, the immediate area of the aquarium is renovated and seems safe. It is right off the highway, big easy parking lot, bright, clean facility. My kids enjoyed it.

A reasonably safe area to go to. Just don't go wandering around out of that several-block area.

Been many times (in laws live In Southern NJ)

Totally safe

Fantastic acquarium . And we’ve been to all the biggies (Baltimore, Shedd, Monterrey, Boston). Only one that is better imo is Barcelona’s.
