| Is this taught anywhere? I don't mean just entering the intersection while the pedestrian is almost fully across. But they'll literally enter, and creep through the middle of the intersection while you're <.25/.5 of the way across. Where are you crazies learning this behavior? |
|
Do you want a literal response?
The truth is people who learn to drive in rural or suburban areas without much foot traffic likely never encounter a pedestrian while learning to drive (other than in parking lots and in school zones during peak times where there are signs, crossing guards, etc.). I learned to drive when I was 14 in an area with no pedestrians. It literally never came up in the classroom, during my many hours of behind the wheel, and during my time driving with my parents. There just were...no pedestrians. After I moved to a big city, I let my license lapse (dumb, but I literally never needed to drive and most of my peers also were car-less) and when a job made it so I needed a car, I had to learn again and only then was safety around pedestrians, bikes, etc. covered. |
| This drives me insane. It didn't happen when I lived in downtown DC, but it happens all the time in Bethesda. One idiot woman unapologetically stopped her huge minivan right in the middle of the crosswalk so I couldn't get my stroller around it and had to wait for a second light change, even though there was plenty of room for her to backup to where she wasn't obstructing traffic. I took a picture of her license plate and sent it to the local police. I hope she got a fine. People want urban areas to be more walkable, but some drivers are just terrible. |
|
Are you a slow walker? If you are walking in a cross walk, why would it take you so long to get across that a driver can't start their turn?
Are you from Kansas? |
They never had stop signs where you grew up? You were never taught what a stop sign means? You've never had to walk yourself where there's a stop slgn/crosswalk? This isn't something that anyone is taught - I grew up and learned to drive in VA suburbs. it's common sense. Stop signs are not just for decoration. |
I'm a fast walker. But when people do this, I slow down considerably. And take my slow sweet ass time. |
| If I have time to turn before you make it across I'm going to |
So you're a psycho.... no surprise that you have issues "with other people"... hon, it's you! But this is not the first time somebody has told you thing. |
Let me guess - you think most pedestrians are ungrateful and should send you a thank you note for obeying the law, stopping, and allowing them to cross. |
| People do this all the time, even when I'm crossing with my child in my arms. Then glare at me for getting in their way. |
| The last person I argued with about this sounded like she was from UMC suburban Dallas. She was offended that I gave her the finger when when she came within a foot of me in the crosswalk (taking a right on red without stopping so she was going at pretty high speed). We then happened to be in line together at a coffee shop, and she was super hurt and offended that I was mean and unladylike. And that, in a nutshell, is the difference between the Texas suburbs and Boston. |
correction, going right on a green, because I did have the walk light. |

NP. You read about someone driving a several ton machine with lots of horsepower at an unprotected person legally where they can and should be and you think the pedestrian is the psycho?? People like you should not be allowed to own or operate guns or cars. You’re not right in the head. |
She purposely walks slower across a crosswalk when she sees a car that has entered the intersection. Yes. That is psycho. |
