Should a bartender reuse your glass when you get another drink?

Anonymous
This is at a bar at a nice downtown DC restaurant. Most of the time I get a new glass, but when it gets busy sometimes they reuse my glass for a beer or cocktail. Seems lazy for what I spend. (Or, knock a dollar off the price.) Plus, I'm not sure other customers want my germs under the beer tap. Just wondering.

I guess I could tolerate it for wine, but ew for everything else.

whats the big deal.

been to several bars where they grab a fresh glass for a new/different drink. but reuse the same glass if the beverage is the same when alcohol is involved.

but for iced teat, soda, water. they always reuse the same glass.

The big deal is spread of germs. I've seen bartenders reuse pint glasses under the tap and I watch them closely every time and every time I can see when they tilt the glass under the tap, the metal part is always resting on the inside of the glass - that's disgusting. They should get a new glass, always.

You want a discount? Sorry, no. I'm sure you're an excellent tipper.

If they can reach across the bar and fill it, (wine bottle, shot of liquor, pitcher of water or iced tea) it's fine.

If they have to pick up your glass and do anything with it, no way.

I thought it was against health code.

No, it could get mixed up and be given to wrong person.

NEVER! I’m paying for the experience. Fresh clean chilled glass for a drink 🥃 I pay an adder for. It’s tells me he focus is on thier convenience not my enjoyment and experience. Not to mention the glass is used/dirty.

only wine/champ

not beer- you need a new cold glass/mug

not mixed drinks, you need fresh ice/garnish

Tap ALWAYS has problems. It's germy even if they get you a new glass, PP.

I used to bartend, and didn't do this, unless- someone asked.

Seems like the more serious drinkers of high end alcohol like bourbons requested it not infrequently.
