As a former bartender who worked for the Silverado 19 movie theatre in Houston Tx, a theatre that prided itself on excellent guest experiences. HELL NO.
Stop being lazy people, it does not matter what drink it is, EVERY GLASS OR CUP, needs to be replaced, the old one set for washing after every use.
It is disgusting otherwise.

I'd say no. I'll let it slide if it's a really low end place, but otherwise no way.

I am not persnickety in general and have no problem at some grungy dive bar (I don't get heated about germs...), but I was recently somewhere pretty high end (ie. 15+ dollars for a Tito's/soda) and the bartender not only didn't give me a fresh drink in a new glass, but re-used the same glass without even dumping out the old ice or the mashed up lime garnish. Also...didn't add new ice. I thought that was something maybe forgivable at 3am on Fire Island paying 8 bucks for a drink in a plastic cup, but inexcusable at 7pm happy hour at a nice place in downtown DC.

Any professional bar tender should know this.

You sound precious.

been to several bars where they grab a fresh glass for a new/different drink. but reuse the same glass if the beverage is the same when alcohol is involved.

but for iced teat, soda, water. they always reuse the same glass.

again. whats the big deal

The big deal is spread of germs. I've seen bartenders reuse pint glasses under the tap and I watch them closely every time and every time I can see when they tilt the glass under the tap, the metal part is always resting on the inside of the glass - that's disgusting. They should get a new glass, always.

Meh, the booze will kill the germs.

No wonder we are rapidly destroying the planet and exhausting our natural resources especially fresh water.

NO, you don't need a new glass for refills on the same drink - whether alcohol or not. Not at home, not at the restaurant or bar.

Seems lazy for what I spend. (Or, knock a dollar off the price.) Plus, I'm not sure other customers want my germs under the beer tap. Just wondering.

You want a discount? Sorry, no. I'm sure you're an excellent tipper.

- a bartender should never let the glass touch the tap? That’s the issue there

You are angry about the wrong thing. Protest pipelines and large companies killing the planet at a large scale. Reusing glasses in certain contexts is actually a health code issue that can get people sick.
