Why do parenting books have to be so damn long - I bought your book, I'm already bought into your approach! I don't need tons of up front narrative, 1000 examples, author musings etc - just give me the run down of what to try. Or for the love of god please at least make it easy to find that if that's all I want and don't spread it out over 100 chapters |
Because "Mothering: You Are Doing It Wrong" is a critical racket that is used to create anxiety and part us with our money? |
Which book are you talking about, OP? |
Most parenting books lack substance and could be simplified into a few pages of instructions. But you can't sell that for $12.95. So they use a lot of filler. |
Unless it is written by a PhD in child development or education, I pass. |
all of them - health sleep happy child, 1-2-3 magic, how to talk so kid will listen, siblings without rivalry, i have a whole stack of approaches i believe are helpful based on other people's comments about them but i can't get through the damn books |
All you need is dcum, op. |
I can’t think of any parenting books (at least the popular ones) that are written by phds in child development. Do you have an example? |
Lmao can you imagine a child raised this way? Yes, OP, do this if you want to have your parenting invalidated literally no matter what you post. |
At least for healthy sleep habits happy child, I never read the book straight through. I read each chapter (which are organized by age) as my babies grew and used the index to find the pertinent sections as issues came up. It was a great resource. |
Please don’t buy another book, OP! They’re all scams. |
Hah this is what my dh thinks too. He wants bullet points and bolded words. I agree their examples suck |
I’m with you, OP. I think the only parenting “resource” we successfully got through and implemented was the “Happiest Baby on the Block” DVD, because it was 20 minutes and got right to the point. Here’s a few techniques, demonstrations, roll credits. |
You wouldn’t pay 15$ for a 2-pager note, would you? |
Eh, I just used common sense/trial and error. If thatfailed, I called the pediatrician's office nurse line or brought it up at the next wellness check up.
Who has time for books?, |
