I loved the movie when I was a kid, Ferris Buehler's Day Off but I wonder why it was so popular. When I watched it recently, it was a okay, movie nothing to write home about comparing to average movies nowadays, I wonder what was to it that made it such a big hit. What was that special thing? The characters? The conflict? The cool parents? The coolness of the kids characters? The story? The principal? Da dog?
Was it every kid's dream? Or was it everything? |
| Matthew Broderick was hot and funny. Breaking the fourth wall was unusual. And you wanted to see if he got away with the outrageous behavior. |
This. I saw it as a high school student. Hadn’t seen anything like it up to that point. You can’t see how novel it was when you’re watching it today. |

Ferris' good cheer was infectious, his girlfriend had an awesome outfit and his best friend wore a Red Wings jersey, plus the Twist and Shout scene was fabulous.

| Because he was doing things that were seen as risky and daring to UMC kids like me and getting away with it. We could all relate to the situations he found himself in, and he as a kid like us who said “eff it” and it worked out. Most of,us were more Camerons than Ferrises. |

| My kids adore this movie! |

Breakfast Club never loses its charm.
FBDO? It's good - just not AS good. |
Disagree. So to each their own. |
| I still laugh at this movie. Danka shen! |
|
It's hilarious, even now!
It's also creative and has some really iconic movie moments. Sorry you're too lame to appreciate it. |
| Because it was fun and he was breaking rules without anything terribly bad happening to anyone. |
You have got to be kidding.
|
What? No way. As an adult Breakfast Club is unwatchable. FBDO is still funny, though. |

Op I think you’re taking it for granted now that it already exists in your cultural memory.
It’s a great movie. Layered, nuanced humor. Some drama. Has a heist aspect to it. Will he get away with it? |
