If so, are you from here?
|
No. Not from here. |
No, and not from here (although been here 25 years). Sounds stupid to me. Took years for me to even realize people weren't talking about renewing their license or getting tags for their car. |
I’ve lived here 23 of the last 25 years and only started hearing the term DMV in the last 2-3 years. Have I just been out of the loop or is it a relatively new term? |
No. DC area. Lived here 16 years, but raised elsewhere. |
Only on here. Never in real life. |
Yes. I've lived here for 11 years. |
No. Lived in the DC area for 30+ years, since I was 4.
The DMV = the department of motor vehicles. DC, Maryland, Virginia are summed up as "the DC area." |
I say DC area. Not from here. |
No, lived here for 14 years. I might use it as an abbreviation online, but IRL I say "DC area." |
No, and I'm not from here. I tell people I am from Maryland. |
I refer to it as the MDCVA (em-dee-cee-va). I've lived here for 65 years in every jurisdiction and only in historic homes. |
DC metro. DVM sounds too much like DMV ![]() |
Of course not. I'm from here; literally no one I know who actually grew up here calls it the DMV. That's not a thing to us. |
Does anyone know where/how this usage started? I don't like it because it feels like we are a day late in following some cute social media naming trend. Forced.
I will try to refrain from violence if you use it in my presence. |
