Thoughts on LMVSC?

Anonymous
DB parent that left VIVA for potentially greener pastures.

Anyway, LMVSC is the new club, even with the departure of coach(es) and players to SYC.

The slate looks promising: CCL and EDP, plus local and regional tournaments (OBGC, SAC, CCL Showcase, Loudoun Showcase, JeffCup, and FC Delco).

So far, so good, although it's early.

Thoughts on the club?

Thanks!

I'm a parent of kids from competing CCL teams and have played them at 3 different age groups. They are a competitive club and I've never seen a bad coach or unprepared team. Like all clubs, they have stronger teams in some age groups but overall it's a good club.

LMVSC is a solid club with solid coaches and players. If this is a club that is convenient to you then you can't go wrong.

Everyone is speaking on the OLD LMVSC which HAD good coaches whom are all at SYC now. No LMVSC is not the place to be anymore good luck.

Yup, all the good coaches in NoVa went to SYC. They all flock to dear glorious leader Este....

Good and bad coaches at every club, coaches that are good and bad at different aspects of coaching, different levels of play depending on age groups. Don't generalize clubs, do real research. Maybe give an age group you're looking at for more specific input.

We are at the NEW LMVSC. We have been at the club for a few years and have always had a positive experience. Regardless of the club you are going to have coaches that are or arent a good fit for your child. In regards to the new coaching staff they have trained a few of our sessions and my DC has told me he learned some new moves/skills and that he liked the coach. I like that they seem to be coaching as a group for a few of the summer sessions. We have also been impressed specifically with Lee. He seems very knowledgable, knows how to encourage players and has some skill of his own. We will see how things pan out this year and as every year keep our options open. Not sure why people are so sour over the so called SHAKE UP. Its a small community and if your player is happy and learning regardless who is the TD or ED is. I think teams will be training later this summer and I encourage you to check out and even attend some of the training sessions and make your own assessment.

We went with LMVSC for convenience and to play with friends. We were not interested in a longer commute given other family activities.

LMVSC is a great soccer community. In the past, the main complaints have been that not enough support has been given to blue (3rd) teams. However, I believe that the new technical staff really wants to zero in on this problem and provide more support and opportunities to the 2nd and 3rd teams.

Some great coaches, some ok coaches. The Maldonados are gone--good riddance. They did take a couple of quality coaches with them, but there's still a great core with some solid additions.

Word of caution: the fields they use are pretty spread out. Hayfield SS, Edison HS, and Lee District Park are the main fields and generally convenient. However, you could also find yourself going to West Potomac and Bryant Alternative School, which are not super convenient.

As the OP noted, they compete at the highest levels and provide a place to grow to whatever extent your DC pushes him/herself.

+1. The informational meeting for parents was excellent; you could tell the staff had heard the complaints from the community and were focused on fixing them.

I feel sorry for the poster that keeps coming to LMVSC posts to bash the club and praise SYC. Grow up.

SYC parent, our "informational meeting" was by far the least professional since we have been with the club. Even our "New" approach is just "better" without any substance supporting why it is better. The different team coaches even had different views on the age group and it appeared they were debating it in front of the parents. I am still not 100% sure what I am getting for the additional cost. With the old SYC staff, at least they had a good presence during these meetings.

I agree with previous poster that LMVSC's informational meeting was well run and it appeared that they heard the complaints and were focused on addressing them. There seem to have been many but they said that they had plans to address them. Most focused on 2nd and 3rd team attention but they stated throughout that it was their priority to provide the same attention to all teams regardless of color/level.

Personally I think it'll be hard to handle ALL in the short term but it seemed that they had long term vision which is good.

Hopefully these changes will help the club move in the correct direction after the changes that took place in the last 6 months.

As a LMVSC who didn’t move I see no changes. I wonder if these people saying it’s so much better are actual parents or just coaches trying to make LMVSC look good. It’s to early to tell but so far unimpressed with the parents a lot of talk and promises and coaches seem to try a little to hard to be nice, probably because they are new we’ll see after a couple months.

PP here who wrote that it’s a great soccer community.

You might be right: maybe not much will change. But it’s still pretty good. Some of the club’s best coaches over the past few years have been at the white or blue level. The rosters aren’t huge (SYC folks will soon find out what I’m talking about), and if they do succeed in making the intended improvements, things’ll just get better.

Not perfect, but it’s a good club.

+1 for LMVSC. If I had to knock them for something the occasional need for more field space but that is usually the case for clubs in this area. We didnt have any of the departing coaches so really didn't change anything for us. If you are coming in brand new you will be fine. Not sure what age group you are looking at but if convenience is important to you it's worth giving them a shot.

Interesting, don’t think anyone is saying better but things are going ok since the changes. I’m a parent, had concerns with how some things were handled and they said they were going to address it and make it better. We’ll have to wait and see.

You seem negative/skeptical which is fine, so what was your reason for not leaving if not happy?
