It varies so much from school to school. I know people at some schools who don’t have to go in at all on Monday and some who have to stay all day. My principal puts up a sign out sheet sometime in the late morning on Monday and you have to be there to sign up for a check out slot. Check out slots start at around 11:30 or 12:00. When it’s your turn you go over some paperwork and turn in your keys and then admin goes to your room to inspect it. Sometimes they come up with nitpicky things like not every staple is out of your bulletin board so you have to do that and then wait for them to be available then.
I’ve been staying late to get my room prepped and I’ll be done by tomorrow. I really wish I was at a school that doesn’t force you to come in to sit and wait around if you’re done. What is the checkout process at your school and do you work in elementary, middle or high school? I’m in elementary. |
| ^^wait for them to be available *again*^^ |
| I'm in elementary and we have to report on Monday. Our principal will post the sign up sheet to get checked out with time slots beginning at 9am. There's a two-page document full of signatures we need to have completed before we are allowed to checkout. For instance, we have to get signatures from our media specialist, reading specialist, math coach and staff development teacher to make sure we have returned all materials and our grades are finalized. When it's our time to be checked out one of our administrators checks our room and then we sign all the paperwork. I'm usually out by noon. |
OP here. Yes, we have to get all the signatures in advance as well and then turn in the document with signatures to our admin when we check out. I forgot to include that piece! |
| If we have a half day, we have to sit through some lame, pointless meetings first. Full day is sitting through lame, pointless meetings until lunch and then shooting the breeze until we all scramble to find an administrator to check us out. |
| Pfft, we have a one sheeter checklist to return chromebooks, library materials, etc. and how to prepare your room for summer cleaning. Principal or AP comes to your room to see, signs off, then you drop your keys off with the admin secretary, or sign a document that you’re keeping them over the summer (with a reason that has to be approved). There are a few time slots to check out on Friday afternoon, and I snagged one. I’m planning to check out Friday, but come Monday just to finish paperwork. |
| My current school requires check out on Monday or taking a personal day. It should be a short process, however many people couldn’t get signatures today and tomorrow isn’t looking better. I will finish grading and packing this weekend so I’m not in a rush. |
Isn't the last professional day in MCPS always a full day? |
I assume the PP means the day after November conferences. |
Why would anyone be checking out after November conferences? OP is referring to checking out at the end of the school year. |
| At my es, you sign up for a check out time. As long as you get all your signatures and are checked out, you can go. Some people are there 30 min, and paid for the full day, while others take the full day to clean out. |
| Can you access your MCPS email until Monday, or all summer long? I've been planning to thank a couple of teachers by email. |
All summer long. You don't lose access to email unless you don't change your password when you're supposed to. --teacher |
Thanks! |
Be sure to CC the principal! |
