Any updates on the DOE Investigation on discrimination case for magnet middle schools MCPS

Anonymous
We received a letter stating the MLK and Clemente will also be a part of this investigation now and be consolidated under the same case for Takoma and Eastern. We had filed a complaint and hence received this letter. Does anyone have any updates news information on this matter. Also on second thoughts my child is still in MCPS and I am now scared that they may use this against us in future. Any advice or experiences for this - please let us know. Thank you

I actually hope the CO keeps track of the people filing this frivolous nonsense and reduce their eligibility for consideration going forward.

because we should punish the child for the acts of the parent.

Why not? In the past the kids got in because their parents taught them the answers to the test, so we were rewarding them for the acts of the parents.

Let's' not do that either.

OK, so if a parent isn't engaged in the child's schooling, then the system should flunk the child automatically, regardless of how well the child does in school, because it's all about the actions of the parents.

Well that escalalated quickly. Of course we should be involved in our children’s schooling. And of course we should not game the system by paying shady prep classes to tell our kids the answers to a test MCPS never made public and never intended children to practice ahead of time.

Are you stupid, or are you a monster? Transparency is always good and for the benefit of everyone.

OP,

You were very courageous to file a complaint. On behalf of all MCPS families, thank you. Whether we know it or not, we are all affected by discrimination, if it turns out there is discrimination.

What prep classes tell the answers to the test? Why can't children prep for a test? I tell my kids to study for a spelling test, math test, why not magnet test? Will you not prep your kid for the SATs? I know I sure will.

Thank you for draining off tax dollars that would be used to educate children so they can defend against a frivolous investigation

Can you elaborate? I thought the lawsuit was being conducted through the federal Office of Civil Rights? How would money from that agency be going to MCPS in the first place?

This MCPS parent is not saying thank you.

Well, this MCPS is saying thank you! The lawsuit is NOT going to benefit parents of any current 5th graders. The parents are fighting to get increased enrichment for ALL deserving students. And they are fighting for transparency.

Transparency in MCPS policies will benefit EVERYONE.
