Do they somehow believe that their children will benefit from it?

And, not to put too fine a point on it, are they prejudiced against Asians?

Keep it up and I'm going to believe that everyone who pipes up against the investigation is racist.

I do not think that these posters are parents. They are probably BOE and Administrators. I think most parents do not care for their kids to be in magnet. Those who care, apply. Most do not apply.

No, we're parents. Just parents who have an opinion that is different from yours.

That used to be the case, now you do not need to apply, so more students are being considered who would not have applied in the past and their parents are thinking twice attending the magnets. Yes, some say no thank you, but many say yes. With more people considering the magnets as a choice, there are not as many spots for some of those who "always" attended in the past because their parents applied.

Having a different opinion and recognizing the changes were made to make the process more open to everyone does not make someone racist or against one group of people.

The "new" process ensures that students from all parts of the county, regardless of race or parent knowledge about the program have the opportunity to be considered for the program. It has been clearly explained and I do not see any conspiracy or desire to eliminate any one group.

I think the divide has happened because people have realized that their students are falling behind because of subpar MCPS education. Yes, the achievement gap has always been there because of many reasons and continues to exist even today. The gap has been exacerbated because of subpar MCPS education and dishonest policy of hiding how poorly URMs were performing.

Unfortunately, magnet programs that historically had very small number of seats and were based on academic merit and performance, has unnecessarily become the face of this gap.

To draw a parallel - It is like saying that Miss USA competition is unfair because the contestants are beautiful, young and accomplished women and so they should be taking x number of women who have been victim of sexual abuse and should be made candidates. Now, maybe there were Miss USA contestants who were also sexually abused before but that was not the criteria that was used to select them before. They still had to be beautiful, fit, young, confident and accomplished. What changed now is that instead of actually helping the victims of sexual abuse by getting them legal, financial, psychological help you make them compete in the beauty pagent and pat yourself in the back because there is nothing more to be done for them.

Achievement gap exists and overall achievement of all children in MCPS is declining because crucial years in elementary and middle school is spent twiddling their thumbs because of the stupid curriculum, inefficient teachers, no textbooks etc. But to change the criteria of magnet programs selection is stupid, to deny deserving high performers place in magnet programs because they are affluent/asian/in W schools is even more stupid. But the real tragedy now is that instead of closing the achievement gap and raising performance for all, what is being seen as the solution is the erosion of the magnet program. This is so very stupid.

When you have MCPS central office, administrators and BOE filled with substandard individuals this is the kind of solution that you get.

FYI Thiis is the democratic party play book

no one can be successful or better than anyone else so we have to fix society to make everything equal

Yes we know vote for comrade trump’s party to MAGA!!

I'd rather have Trump there than someone that has an irratioanal inherent fear of capitalism. None of the democrats has any clue how the economy actually works

The idea that the economy has anything to do with Trump is laughable. That buffoon has gone out of his way to tank it repeatedly,

Drumpf's idea of economic leadership would be bankrupting the US.
