Can confirm. Some of the richest ladies I know love a bargain and finding a needle in the haystack. Goodwill, to a lesser degree. TJ Maxx, yes. Consignment stores in wealthy neighborhoods. The wealthiest ladies can pull this off because their entire look whispers "I'm rich" and no one would think they go it for 1/10th of the retail price. |
I’m rich (well, UMC by DCUM standards maybe?) and this is absolutely true. And I actually pick stuff up for free on the curb. My $25k couch and chair are sitting next to a small end table I picked up on trash day in a nice neighborhood. My coffee table is an old, solid wood piece I grabbed for free off of Marketplace and had refinished. Bought my Horowitz classical piano CDs used from Goodwill and charity thrift shops for $0.50-1 apiece. I don’t care is stuff is free or used, I just look for quality and design. People come over and look around and ask who my designer is. |
Anyone who posts here about high v. Low class is automatically in the latter category.

What are we considering to be "class"? If the proposition is that old money=class, then I disagree totally. I used to be server at a restaurant in Maine frequented by super old money people, in a stereotypical old money locale and...yeah..."nice to service people" is not something I'd associate with that crowd, LOL. |
Class and wealth are not the same thing. |
LOL. Ancestors with Nobel Prizes. Most Nobel prizes have been won by first and second generation immigrants many of whom were Jewish. Not Wasps. Not old money. The self congratulation and smugness has now officially crossed over into delusion. |
This is the whole point of manners. Classy people are well mannered. |
Not at all. We can all think of wealthy people with no class (Trumps, Kardashians) as well as I’m sure normal income people we know who just exude class. A good friend of mine’s mother is just about the classiest person I can think of, in dress and demeanor, and she is normal income. |
Pennants or other decor from private schools in kids rooms or studies. |
This is DCUM. Yes, they are. |
+1 One WASP relative had an ancestral line supporting a branch of the military since its inception. |

+1 People get on here just to sh!tpost. |
This is so true. The NFL, NBA, and Hollywood are full of wealthy people who lack class. Money does not buy class. An individual's behavior, demeanor, and character traits determine their class. |
This was my main take away from reading A Little Princess too but at the same time, you know she dumped that rat like a hot coal. |
