You are confusing class with wealth, but that's so typical of DCUM. |
And yet you won’t find members of the UC pushing a dirty shopping cart around TJ Maxx looking at trash. Well… except for my mother—but there is mental illness driving it with her. |
PP from way back and I stand by this - clear, articulate, grammatically correct speech with a broad vocabulary.
Tendency to be more reserved and demonstratively polite and gracious. Not loud, boisterous and complaining. At least a passing interest in being attractive and never unkempt and slovenly. |
Yes. I do a lot. Clearly you aren’t UC if you really think that. |
This is not true. My SIL is the daughter of a billionaire and she cannot resist a good deal. She will shop at TJ Maxx and all the expensive shops - an equal opportunity deal hunter. Her father grew up MC is definitely impressed his frugality on his kids. |
TJ Maxx and Aldi are full of UMC and UC people. |
Agree. Alcoholism transcends class boundaries. Only the quality of the booze differs. |
Funny. My FIL was old WASP money in the NE. Town named after them, big Victorian home with servants, boarding school at 4 as they do in England. He had a long career in the military. |
If you’re under 30, cursive handwriting. Chances are you went to private school. |
The people who do the right thing while no one is watching. |
Wait are you saying classy people don’t shop at TJ Maxx or rich people don’t? I can personally confirm that some super, generationally rich people I know shop there. If that makes them loss points in the class war so be it but they’re at least being smart with money. |
Well-spoken, good posture, don't speak too loudly or manhandle doors, walk softly, always be nice to service people, exude quiet confidence. My SIL who grew up very working class in Mass has told my brother she can tell we are from a more UMC family just by the way we conduct ourselves. It is subtle but tends to help you get places in a way that's hard to pinpoint (beyond the resume). |
Not making posturing, self-congratulatory posts about how classy one is. |
NE is frugal, use it until it's worn out- clothes, furniture, cars |
Making everyone feel at ease. |
