I grew up in Lake Braddock in the 1970s and 80s. We had a People's in Kings Park - when my dad was feeling particularly generous he'd give my oldest brother a dollar bill and the four kids each got to spend 25 cents - there was no tax so we each got a candy bar or pack of Bubble Yum.
We had missionhurst priests at Holy Spirit out in the wilds of Annandale, before the Catholic Church made us part of a diocese. Our priests were from Belgium and they were SO NICE - and you could only understand every third word they said, their accents were that strong. I also remember Snippets (channel 20?) and taking field trips. It was the only time any of us got a can of soda - somehow every mom knew to pack a can wrapped in tin foil. Everyone are their lunch and drank their soda by like 6:00 am on the bus
Braddock Road soccer was the best - everyone played. Everyone played high school soccer too - not just club - and we sincerely hated our rivals. Anyone remember Burger Chef? |
I do. I went there "clubbing" with a group once in...hmmm...possibly 1991. |

Does anyone remember Thelma's in Great Falls?
I remember going there for homemade ice cream (late 1980s), and Thelma would ring up the ice cream on this big black cash register. There were old gas station pumps in front that I don't think were used anymore. It made me feel like I was in another time, perhaps in a small town. |
