Agreed. We are untouched and a pretty urban community. I’m sure those further out will take some time to dig out tomorrow and Wednesday. Def won’t be ready for kids/buses

WTF? No, school will be open on Wednesday. All the main roads are clear now, the neighborhood roads will be cleared tomorrow.

My money is on a two-hr delay for Wednesday.

Nah closed on Wednesday, will also close on Thursday so kids can watch coverage of Carter’s funeral.

The county already said we aren’t closed Thursday.

Fcps won't be closed for the funeral Thursday

Fcps will be closed on Thursday because of "ice" in Clifton and Herndon, as a pretense for giving a day off for the funeral

Please stop with your conspiracy theories

It’s not going to get above 30F until Saturday at the earliest, and will be 20f or below every night. Are you aware of what happens to plowed roads when it’s that temperature, or do you get your weather information from RFK Jr?

DP. I live on a cul de sac that seldom gets plowed. It's been plowed today. And, yes, it will likely ice over some tomorrow, but, I would plan on Wednesday--with a delay. Roads can be treated.

I think Wednesday is a toss up...def a delay but could be a closing. Enjoy the snow, cocoa, and games with your kids. Or stomp your feet and be angry about it.

Ok, I think being off today and tomorrow is the right call because this area doesn’t handle snow well, let’s be honest. But no one who is stressed about the weather closures is “enjoying snow, cocoa, and games with the kids.” They’re trying to work, as well as manage their kids at home after a very long 2 week break, and it’s stressful. Shades of 2020-2021. Let’s try to just get through this. If the second wave of snow tonight doesn’t drop too much and if it doesn’t drag on too long into Tuesday morning, I’m thinking positive thoughts for school on Weds with a probable 2 hour delay. I’ve been out shoveling and snowblowing all day and the snow is fairly dry/powdery and removal hasn’t been too difficult.

LOL.....I need popcorn to read your rant-so funny and dramatic. Next time use all CAPS like some of your teary foot stomping friends.

I think there’s one person responding to every post on here which is why the thread gained 4 pages of low quality replies in a matter of minutes. Maybe go spend some time with your family!!!!!111 why do you hate being a parent?!?!,!,!!!!

I just got on I can't make it through the first 45 pages but that last five.... the responses are so freaking funny! It's probably that Navy mom she was funny too.

Nah it’s you responding to yourself. PP is spot on. No one can stand being around you and you weren’t important enough to be working today. So here you sit. Loser.

Doesn't FCPS bake in 16 snow days into the schedule? How many did they use last year? How many will they use this year? When in doubt, close the schools!

No, it's 32 free snow days baked in. They'll reopen right before spring break.

They were not. And custodians don’t plow parking lots anyway.

Custodians have been called in to report on Tuesday morning.

And yes, custodians do not plow parking lots. That’s contracted out.

Curious if there are staffing / labor issues (shortages) related to snow clearing.

They’ve always contracted this out.

Dp. Yep. It’s contracted, and there aren’t a lot of contractors who do this. So in a manner of speaking, it is about staffing.

I lived in an area of the US where it snows 6 months a year. There are lots of plows because it makes sense to be a contractor out there, and it made sense for the gov to pay a lot for plowing.

I really think people underestimate how many streets don’t get plowed or get only one pass.
we are next to an elementary school. Not one street I. Our neighborhood saw a plow today. School also has not been plowed

Yet some of the roads are getting three and four plows in a line. The extra plows should be spread out to the roads near schools. I realize these are contractors (many are landscaping and plumbing trucks), but assign them efficiently. Or use common sense, stop going back and forth on roads 4 in a line and divide and conquer side streets too.

NBC4 just said not to expect school before Friday but possibly Thursday. There's going to be no melting, which will help so there won't be refreezing overnight, but we got 10.5" where I'm at and according to the plow tracker online, less than 10% of roads have even gotten serviced even once. All the work has been put into keeping the main roads passable for emergency vehicles and essential workers.

The person who needs help is the one sitting on here trolling. It’s really pathetic that a grown adult thinks that’s a good use of their time.

I think schools will be open on Wednesday since bus drivers and attendants have been called to work tomorrow cleaning buses of the snow.
