Funny when your lacrosse program is in disarray, it is natural to lash out at the best team with great coaches.

Not everyone. Program faced challenges this year based on first-ever loss to PVI and one-goal wins v BI and SJC, teams they once dominated. Shows great players are seeking other schools. Good for the sport overall.

Good lacrosse programs win big title games at the end of the season. Also rans point to one-goal losses as achievements in absence of big victories.

Smart programs would see those one-goal wins as indicative of a changing landscape and wouldn’t be so cocky.

Smart programs also wouldn’t ignore / gloss over a first time statement loss to a team from Loudon which they used to destroy, and flaunt one l-goal wins as proof of continued relevancy.

HC beat SJC.. just sayin’

Not a SJC parent but confused why you’d write that in defense of SR’s wobbly season. Sensing some defection on your part.

Not following. SR nearly lost to SJC, a team that was beaten handily by HC, a low-ranked ISL team. Help us understand how this makes SR look better?

now that i reread that— i have no idea my thought process- i don’t have strong opinions on SR or SJC so i wasn’t trying to defend SR- i think i was just trying to be tongue in cheek and bring it back around to the HC conversation

Anonymous wrote:The job of a high school coach is not just to win. High school coaches act as important adult role models in a player's life. It is part of their job to motivate, support, and help EACH player reach their potential. It is a big responsibility to coach adolescents, they are still learning and growing and how a coach treats them can influence how them see themselves positively and negatively. The negatives being promoting self-doubt, negative self-talk and often a loss of love for their sport. Here are some characteristics of a good high school coach, and in my opinion, SS has none of these: Good coaches don't play favorites. Good coaches communicate without consistently using profanity, rather they use positive and constructive feedback to inspire and motivate while having sensitivity of what it's like to be an adolescent juggling the pressures of home, school and sport. Good coaches make kids feel good about themselves, and build up, not tear down their self-esteem.

Allegations of abusive coaching have piled up recently across college and pro athletic programs. There's a reason for that--The majority of people believe that verbal put-downs, swearing, threats of harm when players make mistakes are not acceptable. Of course, constructive criticism is expected but it's also expected that it not be hurtful or shaming.

In closing I'll say that obviously opinions on coaches are subjective. However, even if your child started, was a favorite, or wasn't bothered by the coaching techniques of a coach, shouldn't you stand up and advocate for the kids who are being treated in an unacceptable manner. How is a player to be expected to develop chemistry with the team and expected to learn the plays if they are not even ever put in PRACTICE. There is a better way to coach and treat children and having some positive results in the win column shouldn't excuse unacceptable coaching behavior.

Someone should send this to the former BI coaches. They obviously needed to hear this. The last paragraph is definitely something that should read by every parent, especially a few of the remaining BI families.

Not Stone Ridge’s finest hour.

SR's head coach is a freaking wack job.

She needs to learn to put life into perspective

maybe you are the former HC head coach? sr lax parent here. she is amazing. why do you think every high level lax player wants to play for her?

I’m not sure this is true at all.

Not every high level lax player wants to play for her. My DD plays for one of the big 3 clubs here in MD and SR was an option but we we choose another route because of said coach and the reputation she has when it comes to player treatment.

Funny that this criticism comes after an ISL championship. Maybe not everyone wants to play at SR, but apparently many do when you look at the depth of the team compared with other schools and the great college destinations year after year. She is a tough coach. So is KJ. But she would jump in front of a train for her players like she did with my daughter. Success draws criticism from the also rans. Better luck next year.

This is not new and has been stated about said coach for years it has zero to do with SR winning their first ISL championship. And really you can not compare her to KJ let her win a dozen more championships then she can join that conversation.
