he likes to feel important. why did he release the name of a person in IC to the Russians? it isn't for the $$. it is to feel like a big shot.

I can see him spilling info; he already did that. But I think it would be degrading to him to literally sell documents. It would be like El Chapo selling pot on a street corner.

You know you're talking about Trump, right? The purveyor of Trump Steaks.

And Trump Ties etc.

Yeah but he didnt personally sell them. He branded them, which is what people do to make a lot of money. I just find it implausible that Trump would sell the documents. How would he even do it? The typical ways people do this would not be available to him because, well, he is literally followed at all times by federal enforcement officers (secret service).

As for the "intelligence" about weaknesses in our election system- that is nonsensical. By its very nature, intelligence is information about other countries. So he would sell their own information back to them? Does thaf make any sense? "Vlad, you interfered with our election. Heres our report on how you did it." He knows how he did it, because he did it.

I don't know. Maybe you could leave them in an unsecured location in the basement of your hotel that is frequented by foreign visitors on a regular basis.

Classified information most certainly includes information about the US and its vulnerabilities (as well as its plans, capabilities, etc.). You have no idea what you are talking about.

That isnt true. There are certainly classified security assessments or classified documents that describe vulnerabilities. That isnt intelligence, though. The documents are reportedly intelligence. We dont collect intelligence on our own plans and capabilities. We describe them in other classified documents.

How do you know they are “intelligence”?

There’s a ton of reporting on this. There are multiple links to it in this thread. Read the whole thread and the links in it.

All the reports just say classified documents. There’s nothing about “intelligence,” much less anything supporting your odd definition of it.

Definitely missing some intelligence here.

Imagine if, gasp Hillary had been found with classified documents all over her house. Republicans would be gleefully chanting lock her up.

The government NEVER releases warrants. This is a ploy by the GOP to get people angry over things that happen every day, like when the FBI executes a warrant.

Apparently, the ploy means that the DOJ can unseal the warrant after all.

No, the JUDGE can unseal the warrant if the parties agree.

Which means not just Trump can. From what I understand, Trump's lawyers were not allowed to keep a copy of the warrant at the time. Were they eventually given it?

Of course they have the warrant, and they can make it public anytime they want.

It wasn’t clear because at the time of the raid, Trump’s legal team was only allowed to view the warrant, not keep it. Some were saying they were told to stand 10 feet away while viewing.

Correct. Can someone post a source that states Trump appointed the judge?

I also heard that they only were allowed to see it by standing on the heads so everything was upside down. Those FBI bastards!

So there are tapes?

The FBI wouldn’t have authority to disable surveillance without a court order and they would likely want the recoding to demonstrate that nothing occurred out of the ordinary.

So much for the day planting evidence rabbit hole.

But the most intriguing thing remains why he didn’t just give them back? Since everyone knew he had these docs, he couldn’t do anything with them. I just can’t imagine what value he ascribes to them.

1. Evidence of a crime.

2. Consciousness of guilt.

3. Trump has spent a lifetime bs’ing and stonewalling. He didn’t think the FBI would drop the hammer.

If evidence of a crime, why didn't he destroy them?

Interestingly enough, there’s an article(s) circulating from 2020 where he declassified everything including declassifying redactions. So whether or not the docs are classified is a question mark. Don’t know what to think about it

Oh, I don't think he is looking for money in return - he's looking for foreign help for another win in 2024.

You'd think he would sell agreements to support certain policies or actions in exchange for help. Not a classified document, like a peasant.

Middle class bureaucrats sell secrets for cheap because they have a cheap price (usually it’s about making themselves feel important and less bored) and so why would foreign governments overpay? Trump is f selling documents for $100K—if he’s selling them, it’s so the foreign entities don’t call the debt on his family or release whatever kompromat they have on him. He is super in debt to foreign banks and probably entities more shady than banks.
But I rather doubt he sold anything—he probably doesn’t even know what’s in the boxes but has someone pack up stuff he thought might be worth something. I’d love to hear from whatever lowly schmuck packed/loaded the boxes

One of the reports from when this came up before stated that he had packed the boxes himself.

I just have such a hard time imagining him reading even the spine of the binders that would fill 15 boxes.
Although it also sort of reminds me when you are too lazy to sort through papers to clean out your office when quitting a job and so just put everything into off-site boxes and tell someone to send it to offsite storage.

Yes, but there are two problems with that. President's are not allowed to take any documents or papers with them when they leave office. He knew this at the time. In addition, he seems like the type that would keep all the documents he thinks are important in his office so they'd be somewhat presorted. He also seems like the type of guy that would not realize that classified documents are logged out to individuals and not limited to a single paper copy.

I think this is incorrect, as Obama did. He was supposed to have them scanned for his library, I think.

He has to file paperwork to do that. So that's easy to prove or disprove. Release the warrant and inventory and compare that to any declassification orders he filled out. The documents still aren't his to take under the National Records Act though.

Obama sought and was granted permission prior to doing so and didnt do so with classified documents.

Once again, if Trump just releases the paperwork then this is all easily cleared up.

But then it would be all cleared up and the truth would be plain to see: Donald trump stole classified documents and stored them improperly.

If the last few years about watching the Dump be horrifying, I look forward to what will be revealed that makes this worse than any of us anticipating.

Further articles stated that the WH legal team did not follow through on the paperwork.

Many people are saying it because he joined the bench while Trump was President and not everyone realizes he’s not an Article III judge.
