For people who notice these things, what impression do you get when you see a license plate frame saying ALUMNI then the name of the college?
Does it depends on which college it is? For example, if you see the name of a state school, you think it's simply alumni pride in a positive way v. the name of one of the more prestigious ones, you think the person is not only proud but also something negative, such as narcissistic, attention-seeking, insecure, whatever else? |
| School pride, nothing more, nothing less. |
| If I see UVA, I assume douche |
Haha yes. I don't care if people flame me for that. |
I have an alumni tag for an out-of-state private that’s not Ivy but pretty good, and has a reputation for beautiful, well-dressed rich girls. I drive a crappy older car with goldfish in every crevice, we live in a very modest house that needs updating, we have zero extra cash, my clothes are from Target, I have a gut from having kids and eating a lot of those goldfish, and I need a haircut and some Botox stat. I like to think people do a double-take when they see the tag and wonder where I went off the rails

I have a rule that I don’t put any identifying markers on my car. It’s for security reasons.
People already can google too much about me, find out where I live, etc. I don’t want some stranger to trash my car just because they don’t like the fact that I went to a school they don’t like, or that they know my kid goes to xyz elementary or plays xyz sport. There are too many road rage crazies and stalkers out there. |
| PP, you may think it’s hilarious to say that everyone who went to UVa is a douche, but it’s not. There are 1000s who graduate every year, it’s a strong education, and it’s one of the top state schools of Virginia. They graduates are not all “douches”. |

Someone who lives in the past and defines themselves by group associations rather than individuality.
Generally a follower. |
| Please pay attention to the road instead of license plate frames. |
Where exactly do you look when stopped at a light? Do you stare unblinkingly at the lights? |
| I see Penn State and can’t believe people advertise that after Sandusky. |
+1 |
+1. Similar idea to the UVA point: maybe not all graduates are douches but grads who advertise on their car should know that's the connotation. |
| The decision to have the frame was made by a man and he's a belligerent sports freak who wears oversized team jerseys on the weekends and his identity is all wrapped up in it. |
It's called nostalgia. But perhaps you don't have any fond memories of anything, place and/or person from your past, just eyes ahead for you. |
