What impression does an alumni license plate frame give off?

Or maybe his kids gave it to him for Father’s Day or his wife bought it for him because they met there and she thought he might want it for his new car. Maybe he doesn’t even want it but put it on because he wanted to show that he thought the gift was thoughtful.

Geez you people suck.

Sports are fun. The people who make fun of them are snobs

Yes, I take into account all those "maybes" when I see one of those silly frames.

Maybe his dying mother crawled hundreds of miles over broken glass to bring him the frame, and expired in his arms as she handed it over.

He hates it, and in fact didn’t even attend that particular school, but given everything that his mother sacrificed to bring it to him, he has no choice.

I carried a lot of childhood trauma into adulthood. One of the ways it manifested was me sabotaging myself and squandering opportunities. I enrolled in college many times over the years and either dropped out or failed out. I had a baby, and I wanted to prove to myself that I could be something other than a f*ck up. I enrolled in undergrad again part time at 27 and didn't tell a soul. Five years later, I got my master's degree. The first thing I did after graduation was go to the bookstore and buy alumni tags and a t-shirt for my little girl.

My mind plays “Glory Days” by Springsteen.

A vast improvement over the tacky, plastic, 10 cent dealer-advertisement plates.

I think, “ oh, they went to school at XYZ”

That’s the kind of thing we would never buy but my mom or MIL would buy one of us for Christmas and we’d feel obligated to use it.

I think way less of the suckers who leave on the plate frame with dealership’s name. I don’t spend money on a car to provide them with free advertising.

Michigan State - douchebag or mean girl who will never leave the area

Michigan - Go Blue

Ohio State - obnoxious sports lover

Penn State - who cares

I saw a Go Hoyas Georgetown today on an old Cadillac with the left brake light not working. Sad.

Does it depends on which college it is? For example, if you see the name of a state school, you think it's simply alumni pride in a positive way v. the name of one of the more prestigious ones, you think the person is not only proud but also something negative, such as narcissistic, attention-seeking, insecure, whatever else?

Haha yes. I don't care if people flame me for that.

I have an alumni tag for an out-of-state private that’s not Ivy but pretty good, and has a reputation for beautiful, well-dressed rich girls. I drive a crappy older car with goldfish in every crevice, we live in a very modest house that needs updating, we have zero extra cash, my clothes are from Target, I have a gut from having kids and eating a lot of those goldfish, and I need a haircut and some Botox stat. I like to think people do a double-take when they see the tag and wonder where I went off the rails

No, people just assume you bought used and it came with it or something.

If I see this, I get the impression that the person who owns the car went to the school.
