Weingarten/Manteuffel

So Gene Weingarten just revealed that his girlfriend is fellow WaPo employee Rachel Manteuffel. She is 32 years younger... not sure what he is thinking. She has to be close in age to his daughter Molly. Personally, I still miss The Rib.

I saw them walking down the street a couple of weeks ago and was surprised to see them. He had his hand in her back pocket and I noticed he wasn’t wearing his wedding ring anymore. I couldn’t place her - but she obviously wasn’t The Rib (have been neighbors for years).

OMG! I read his column for the first time in awhile last week and was really surprised at his mentions of his girlfriend. Googled but got nothing about a separation or divorce from wife. Thanks for this information and whoa.

I normally try not to judge but goddamnit Gene you are SUCH A CLICHE! I expected more of him. She is his daughter's age which is gross. Sigh.

ISTR she played a big part in the Post Hunt when Gene ran that.

RIP Post Hunt

I am a big fan of his writing - so smart and witty. I googled her - she also seems to be quite a talented writer. So, I am sure there is intellectual attraction. But the age difference is really something. Sure I can see HIS attraction (to a YOUNG woman). I don't understand hers (I am much closer to her age than his). Sorry, Gene - I still love you (just NOT IN THAT WAY)!

Are you me? I was so confused by the girlfriend reference I started googling his relationship status like a stalker but could find nothing.

67 and 35. Hope she enjoys eldercare.

I won't judge. Both are old enough to make their own decisions. I always liked how he talked about The Rib though, and miss his references to her. I read his weekly chat so I've known for a while that he was divorced and seeing someone else, and I assumed it was someone that would be deemed unacceptable due to his unwillingness to name her for a long time.

I’ve never been a fan of his column. Seems like a person who believes he is much more witty and intelligent than he actually is. What a cliche.

Ughhhhhhh. I used to like him and he is a great writer. Agree with the PPs that now he’s just another cliche of a dirty old man.

Oh my! I thought he was joking! I read that the other day and thought it was some inside joke I wasn't privy to!

He wrote a column a bit ago about the marriage ending, link is in this tweet (I don't subscribe to wapo)

I read his chats too and didn't connect the dots to there being something off for why he didn't want to share just assumed he was protecting her privacy. Just... wow.
