Nice win for the US over France to advance to the quarter finals against Ecuador.
Took the lead 1-0, then France scored 2 to take the lead. The US looked to lose their composure a bit, and started playing way too many long balls, but then got it together and managed to score two nice goals and win it.
Did a great job in possession after taking the lead late. Bodes well for the future.

It helps a bit that France has players playing with the National team and u21s that would otherwise be eligible for this competition. Solid result, but let's not act like this is the event to turn it around for the US.

No, it doesn't, but it's better than losing.

Great win for this U20 team. However, it was clear that France has a lot more talent even after sending their best players to play with the senior national team. France should have won this game, but we will enjoy this upset. The best news is that our young players will get more looks from the pro scouts and this could open more opportunities for some of the young guys to move to Europe.

Lots of them are in Europe already. And our best striker (Josh Sargent) is with the main national team instead of at the U20s.

GOALKEEPERS (3): CJ Dos Santos (Benfica/POR; Foxchase, Pa.; 2/0), David Ochoa (Real Salt Lake; Oxnard, Calif.; 5/0), Brady Scott (Köln/GER; Petaluma, Calif.; 11/0)

DEFENDERS (6): Julian Araujo (LA Galaxy; Lompoc, Calif.; 2/0), Sergino Dest (Ajax/NED; Almere-Stad, Netherlands; 10/1), Chris Gloster (Hannover 96/GER; Montclair, N.J.; 14/0), Aboubacar Keita (Columbus Crew SC; Columbus, Ohio; 5/0), Mark McKenzie (Philadelphia Union; Bear, Del.; 12/3), Matthew Real (Philadelphia Union; Drexel Hill, Pa.; 12/0), Chris Richards (Bayern Munich/GER; Birmingham, Ala.; 11/0)

MIDFIELDERS (6): Edwin Cerrillo (FC Dallas; Frisco, Texas; 0/0), Chris Durkin (D.C. United; Glen Allen, Va.; 5/0), Richard Ledezma (PSV Eindhoven/NED; Phoenix, Ariz.; 5/0), Alex Mendez (Freiburg/GER; Los Angeles, Calif.; 18/8), Paxton Pomykal (FC Dallas; Highland Village, Texas; 11/3), Brandon Servania (FC Dallas; Dallas, Texas; 11/3)

FORWARDS (5): Konrad De La Fuente (Barcelona/ESP; Miami, Fla.; 5/1), Ulysses Llanez (Wolfsburg/GER; Lynwood, Calif.; 12/7), Justin Rennicks (New England Revolution; South Hamilton, Mass.; 15/6), Sebastian Soto (Hannover 96/GER; San Diego, Calif.; 8/4), Tim Weah (Paris Saint-Germain/FRA; Rosedale, N.Y.; 3/1)

The third goal wasn’t nice. It was nice that we won

It's the U20 world cup... only 3 years removed from the U17 world cup both are essentially just a showcase tournament.

It is true that many of them are in Europe already, which helps to explain why this group was able to beat France. Even so, players like Keita, Cerrillo, Durkin, Pomykal, Servania, Rennick, Araujo, McKenszie, Real, might get an opportunity to move to a higher level than MLS, if they impressed scouts. Beating a team like France will certainly draw attention.

The game will be on FS1 at 7:30 tonight. Don’t tell me who won...

The third goal was great. Rocket shot that keeper could not handle and great hustle follow up. If you don’t think that goal was great, you know nothing. Also, Weah’s assist on the 2nd goal was world class. That was a really strong French team that they just beat. Almost made it 4-2 a few minutes later.

Negative posters like, “enjoy it while it lasts” person, even if US won the whole thing you’d probably still have something negative to say. Keep being negative as someday you will be right, but not yet.

I don't think that the poster who said "enjoy it while it lasts" was trying to be negative. This was a nice win, but France had twice as many shots as we did and we had only 38% of possession so that likelihood of us winning was low. Nonetheless, it is a tremendous win against a more talented opponent and I hope they beat Ecuador in the quarterfinals so that our joy could last a bit longer.

It was an interesting game. The US had a pretty good time with the French back line. The US pace and skill gave them problems. The US back gave up some early chances but settled down in the 1/2. The US was not overwhelmed and looked like they belonged on the field. Liked the gamesmanship after they took the lead. It would be interesting to see them play again ...and the game would most likely be decided by coaching adjustments. That is a major step.

Typical NOVA soccer parent BS. France is better than us. We know that.

Great win for those boys and this country! Looking forward to watching them win the next one!
