How do people like this get so many followers?

I came across this influencer called Sarah Tondello. Lives in small town Illinois and buys a truly startling amount of clothing.

The thing is: her fried hair, her garish makeup, her too small, ill fitting clothes, the ugly loud patterns.

Do 60k people really think this is aspirational?!!

Please explain if you know the answer.

From a quick glance, she posts a lot of popular brands (Lilly, Tory Burch, etc.) and people probably discover her through those hashtags. There’s also a possibility that she has bought followers.

Not aspirational to me but I can see why it may be to some. And I can respect anyone who tried to look put together on a daily basis when there are so many people who don't put forth the basic effort.

You can buy followers. A lot of people just make it part of their marketing plan.

It's very likely that she bought her followers because she has very few "likes" per post relative to her follower number.

(Almost 70K followers but on many posts only 700 likes).

Sometimes people have one post that gets attention somewhere and then lots of people follow but never really return to the page.

She may also attract other women with similar values but smaller budgets who live vicariously through her shopping

She may have bought followers but interestingly she doesn't hawk any products. It doesn't take that many followers to get asked to do sponsored adds for some detox teas etc
