So my 4 year old has been asking how do babies get out of their mommy's tummies. We have been very open generally on things like naming anatomically correct body parts, etc. How have others responsed to this question in a truthful manner? |
The baby comes out through the vagina. |
We get out DH's anatomy textbooks and show pictures. How else are kids supposed to understand how all these crazy organs fit together? We also specify that the baby is growing in my uterus to avoid confusion between digestive and reproductive systems because my 4 year old DOES have some idea where poop comea from. |
The doctor takes/helps the baby out. |
Not always! |
The vagina. How is this complicated? |
My 3 year old knows the doctor and the mommy decide whether the baby should come out the vagina or come out in surgery. It seems to satisfy her for now. |
+1 "or sometimes the baby is really cozy and doesn't want to come out so the doctor has to make a little cut right here (show scar) to pull the baby out (show pics of doctor holding baby)" |
I told my 3 year old she grew in my belly and then came out, and she's been telling people that mommy ate her and then she was born. |
How was he born? Start with the story of his own birth.
But some version of, babies grow in their mommy's uterus. When the baby is ready, he comes out of the mommy's vagina. Sometimes a doctor has to help the baby come out. I recommend the book, It's Not the Stork. |
Co-sign. Start with this now--you'll be glad you did. |
These are great and very reaffirming, thank you! |
+2. |
Hahaha, this is why we use the anatomy textbook, but this is so cute abd funny. |
Yep. When I was pregnant with our second, our then three year old had plenty of questions, and we talked about how the baby gets in there and how the baby gets out. I took the opportunity to talk about c-sections--that he was so big the doctor gave me some special medicine so it wouldn't hurt and made a cut in my belly to get him out. And, that Mommy would have that again with his sister, and that means he'd need to be careful and gentle with Mommy and that Mommy would have to rest a lot afterward. |
