+1. If you think you'll need a pump with battery capability, get the S1. You may have to pay an additional fee. I have Aetna and paid $40 extra for the S1 through Pumping Essentials.

Is spectra s1 significantly better?

Same pump, just can be charged so you don't have to plug in to pump.

And agreed on the whole "Spectra, end of discussion" thing.

I had both the S1 and S2 with #1. I sold the S2 because of versatility of the S1 but I did think my output was a bit better with S2.

They’re all terrible.

Spectra S1. Out of pocket if needed. Totally worth it. .

Agree with the rest - Spectra! I think I'm on of the few that didn't hate pumping (I loved 30 minutes alone at work to get things done without anyone interrupting me). Also quiet enough to take calls at work while pumping. I would avoid Medela if you might need/want to take calls while pumping - I shared a wall with someone using that pump and it was SO loud. I used the portability of the battery a lot too and couldn't imagine being stuck to the wall.

I used the Medela with DD1 and was constantly battling clogs. I thought it was due to my oversupply and I dreaded nursing/pumping DD2. Turns out, I just didn't have a good pump. I use the Spectra now and haven't had a single clog or issues with my supply. I wouldn't recommend any other pump and I would 100% pay out of pocket if I had to in order to get the Spectra.

My insurance only covered the ameda purely yours and it was a complete piece of sh*t. I've now paid out of pocket for both a spectra s1 (to keep at the house) and spectra s2 (stays at work plugged in in the pumping room). Baby refused to nurse once I went back to work so now we exclusively pump and having two good ones was worth every penny.

That said, I had a hospital grade medela that I rented for the first three months and it was also very good.

The spectra is great. I have a medela pump in style and like it a lot. Easy to use. Works wel for me. It is crazy loud. I like that there are adapters where you can pump directly into whatever bottles you use (less to wash). And easy to get parts in a pinch (friends have had trouble getting a new part for spectra if they leave something at home but even our cvs carries medela parts).

I used 3 different Medela pump in styles with my 3 kids and then got a Spectra S1 for my 4th. It is much more comfortable than the Medela, much quieter, and my milk output is the same (or better). Agree with the Spectra hands down comment. My only frustration with the pump is that I have a hard time getting the white valves off the pump horns to clean them. Not sure if there is some trick I’m missing.

In addition to the Spectra (or whatever pump you decide to get), do yourself a favor and get a Haakaa (or two). I have about 100 bags of milk in the freezer from the haakaa which required basically no effort on my part to collect.
