Best breast pump

Anonymous
Just coming to the end of almost 14 months of breastfeeding. I have a spectra S1, and recommend it for pumping at home and especially for travel. At home, I also used a haakaa and Medela harmony (hand pump). Both very useful for collecting a bit extra in the wee morning hours or relieving enforcement. At work, I had access to a Medela symphony. I found the Symphony a bit more comfortable than the Spectra. One recommendation is to go to the breastfeeding center with your pump and have a LC show you how to use it properly and make sure you’re using the right size flanges. Good luck!!

Oops I meant relieving engorgement

Medela Symphony is the best! Even the breastfeeding center agreed that this machine is in a different category than the spectral.

It's in a different price category alright. I got more output with the Spectra than the Symphony.

It is much more comfortable than the Medela, much quieter, and my milk output is the same (or better). Agree with the Spectra hands down comment. My only frustration with the pump is that I have a hard time getting the white valves off the pump horns to clean them. Not sure if there is some trick I’m missing.

In addition to the Spectra (or whatever pump you decide to get), do yourself a favor and get a Haakaa (or two). I have about 100 bags of milk in the freezer from the haakaa which required basically no effort on my part to collect.

I'm expecting my 3rd and didn't realize spectra was a thing and has taken over. I have a million Medela parts, but it sounds like I need to switch. I also plan on getting the haakaa.

There’s a hack to use Medela parts with spectra. Why use an open system when spectra is closed?

I have a ton of pumps now.

My favorites are:

1) BelleMa Euphoria Pro-- super-comfortable, easy to use, mimics baby's pattern, quiet
2) Spectra S2-- comfortable, easy to use, decently quiet
3) Spectra S9-- just like the S2, but pocket-sized. I use it with my Freemie cups.

I hate my Medela pump with a passion. It hurts and is loud.

Same. Rented a Symphony for a while and then got a Spectra - Spectra was better in terms of comfort and output for me.

How big are your breasts?

Don’t get new parts! Just buy the back flow adapters and add to your medela parts.

Anonymous wrote:My insurance only covered the ameda purely yours and it was a complete piece of sh*t. I've now paid out of pocket for both a spectra s1 (to keep at the house) and spectra s2 (stays at work plugged in in the pumping room). Baby refused to nurse once I went back to work so now we exclusively pump and having two good ones was worth every penny.

That said, I had a hospital grade medela that I rented for the first three months and it was also very good.

I heard horrible things about the Ameda Purely Yours, but it was the only thing my insurance would cover. Turns out it's been fine for me so far (it's a compact pump, a closed system and takes batteries so those are some pros). So if your insurance won't cover the Spectra I would not stress out too much and just try whatever it is they can give you as it might work fine.
