| DS is considering Virginia Tech as one of his safeties. We are in MD. How good is VT for business and overall prestige? Do they give merit aid for OOS? How does it compare to U of South Carolina, overall and for business? Are students generally happy at VT/have you heard good experiences from students? Would love to know anything about the school! TIA! |
| Check out Miami university in Ohio. Excellent business school, easier to get in. |
Great food, excellent atmosphere, good students...but not really a school known for business. If he wants to go out of state, might as well be South Carolina. He might get more aid and the business school is better regarded. BTW, what’s wrong with UMCP? |
South Carolina is a bit of a joke.... |
| South Carolina...I would not consider paying out of state tuition for that school. |
USC has the top international business program in the country. |
| i dont think either are better than UMCP.... |
I'm from MD. Lots of people who can't get into UMD to to Tech. It's harder to get in to college Park than people think, even in state. |
|
South Carolina for business.
Lots of business jobs are going to SC. |
No one should have an “international business” program anymore. All business programs are global. |
?? Lots of schools have international business- Georgetown, WUSTL, CMU, NYU, etc. |

Virginia tech is a great school. I didn’t go but had friends who went and loved it.
Off the top of my head i can think of at least two who are early 30’s making 6 figures very happy and successful in different industries, FWIW. Most ppl I know who went there have fond memories and found employment easily once they graduated. Had no idea it wasn’t thought of highly by most people. |

With how overenrolled they are this year, I don't think VT will be considered a safety for any OOS next year.
Regardless, in any year, USC will be easier to get into than VT - so it's more likely to be a safety school. You need to take that into account. |
| Virginia Tech grad here. I loved my time there. Easy going atmosphere. Lots of choices on classes. The business and engineer schools attract many big companies who actively recruit there. I am now a principal/partner/managing director at a big 5 consulting firm. I was originally recruited at the business school job fair. |
| Carolina gives awesome merit aid- if it’s a safety for your son that’s to be considered. The business school has a gorgeous new building. Go Cocks! |
