Yes. There are more and more people like this, thanks to social media, and especially Instagram. I know a white Canadian woman (Irish ancestry, I believe) who moved to Mexico and refers to herself as a “savage” who lives in the “jungle”. She lives in a condo on the beach in Cancun. She implies that she has indigenous and black ancestry, appropriating/mocking all the while. She speaks in this weird accent but then occasionally slips into “me Oirish”, excerpt that she never spoke with an Irish accent before this reinvention started.

She has no formal education but lectures people about nutrition, fitness, and now Covid/vaccines and is even starting to delve into political discussion. She is unbearably pretentious and narcissistic and thinks she’s an awakened genius of some sort. She has hundreds of thousands of followers.

Five years ago she’d barely been outside of the town she was born in and I distinctly remember Facebook post about how she was proud to be white.

No, incorrect. There is no projection here. Hilaria is a histrionic fabricator who maniacally puts her pathologies on display. Some of those pathologies involve behavior that is very likely harming her many children. She is also rich, thin, and White. All of those elements create fascination/horror/a desire to see what is next in some of us. And our responses, of incredulity, horror, amusement, possibly envy, are often strong enough to make us want to get confirmation from others: Did you see that? Are you f-ing kidding me? I come from a large family too but I only have two kids. Can't afford more kids because it is really hard financially and without help to raise a big brood. Things were simpler when we were growing up.
