Sibley ER for miscarriage?

Anonymous
I am miscarrying, and it’s too late to schedule a d&c until next week. Not bleeding yet, but trying to think through plans should I need to go to the ER over the weekend. I had a terrible experience at the GW ER while miscarrying last year. Has anyone gone to the Sibley ER with a miscarriage? Was it okay? Thanks for any insight.

I'm so sorry.

I had mine at Fairfax Inova, went OK. Just in case you need a recommendation.

Op here. Thanks for the Inova rec.

As a follow-up, does anyone know how I could get a D&C over the weekend? (Can’t thru my practice.). I’m in the 2nd trimester so would really rather not pass it on my own. Are there any ERs where I could show up and ask for one? (Or is that unwise bc I don’t know who I’ll get doing the procedure?). Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear your OB won't schedule this for you over the weekend

I am sorry OP. I went to Sibley for a miscarriage and was treated well except for the ultrasound tech, who was fairly awkward towards me (saying that things happen for a reason)- English was her second language and I think it just came out wrong. Everyone else was really caring and wonderful.

I did not have a D&C so can’t speak to that.

What hospital does your OB practice out of? I would wait until after hours tonight and call the on call dr and ask what you should do. They may have not been willing to schedule a d&c for the weekend but if it lands on the lap of the on call dr this weekend as an “emergency” they may tell you where to go or be willing to do it.
I’m so sorry for your loss.

Many thanks for the sympathies. And really good idea about calling the after hours doc!! They are going to squeeze me in to the emergency schedule tomorrow - I am so relieved! Thanks again for the replies.

So sorry

I’m very sorry for your loss, OP. I’ve been there, twice.

How far along are you?

I’m sorry op, but why do you think you need a d&c? I would not go to a hospital on a holiday weekend and just wing in. The on call doctor will likely be at a bbq and will come in to do your surgery.

I’ve only had one miscarriage, but I just let things naturally take their course. I didn’t have to go to the hospital. I would ask your doc to prescribe a painkiller just in case you need it when the m/c starts. It’s a lot of cramping.

Best wishes.

OP I’m so sorry. I did pass a 2nd trimester lesson my own, and it was terribly painful. I would at the least request a prescription strength painkiller.

Oh good! I was the PP who suggested that. I’m glad that a bad situation is made a tiny bit easier for you without having to deal with the uncertainties of an ER.

So sorry OP. When I miscarried I called the doctor after hours. They told me to go to the ER if I was bleeding through a pad an hour (or more); otherwise I could wait until their office was open after the weekend and go in then. By the time I got in, and they did a U/S, almost everything was gone so they said I did not need a D&C.

I wish you the best.

She’s in her second trimester and it’ll likely take a while for her beta to get back to zero - another PP said her second tri m/c was painful. And maybe she doesn’t want to draw it out over a weekend. Even if someone was called in it’s not like they can drink when they are on call.

I’m so sorry OP. My wife had 3 losses. It’s so unfair.

I’m so sorry. I had a loss at 12 weeks at sinley and had a d&c and got really great care. I wasn’t admitted through the ER though so not sure if it’s a different experience. I have had other care through the ER recently and also had a good experience.
