Recommendation for location for small morning get together to celebrate child milestone

Anonymous
Looking for something that is wheelchair accessible for a small family get together to celebrate child’s milestone. I’m considering a playground picnic area but concerned elderly relative won’t be able to tolerate the heat. Looking in North Arlington. Just having cake and coffee. Mostly adults and a small handful of kids so I don’t think a playplace would be right. Any ideas? I’m really bad at planning this type of thing. Thanks.

Clemyjontri is completely wheelchair accessible. Our Special harbor (splash park) in Alexandria is too.

Does that splash park have any shade? I remember being there and roasting .

Westover park has a picnic area that is really easily accessible, parking spots right nearby, bathrooms right there. Playground right next to the shaded picnic area. I do think you can reserve it in the summer and I looked it up once and it was way more expensive than I expected, but you could probably just risk it and come early and grab a table. I live nearby and do see parties there sometimes but I feel like you'd be fine. But I guess you'd have to have a backup plan if it turned out someone did reserve it which is a pain.

Also for the westover area, to avoid the heat and also potential other parties, could you do it in the morning? I feel like you wouldn't have to be worried about either the heat or a reserved birthday party or something if you did like a brunch - 10:30a?

Sorry I see now you already said morning, so that's perfect. I would be really surprised if the westover space is taken in the morning.

Parkhurst park near Westover is nice and shady. They have a big gazebo.

If it was reserved, Madison Manor is close an has a similar set up with bathrooms and a covered shelter by a playground.

that's a good idea! It's not that often that I see a party so I think Op would be fine and having a place like this as backup is perfect. Does anyone know if there is a way to check with the county if a spot is reserved that day? That would be so helpful to just know in general...

Hey OP I found the perfect spot for you! Try the splash pad at Penrose Square in South Arlington. There is one hour free/and then cheap parking in the garage, and you can park on the same level as the splash pad. There are tables and chairs in the shade, as well as benches directly adjacent to the splash pad. There’s a Starbucks and a Giant if you need a restroom.

Thanks all! I’m sure on of these will work!

Just curious, what’s the child milestone?

This sounds like something you should just host at home. It is really hot outside.
