Musician Moby dated Natalie Portman and Lana Del Ray--now Portman says no, he was a creepy predator

Anonymous
Anyone see this viral story? I didn't really know who Moby was. Like, I didn't know he was WILDLY successful back in the day. One of his albums went 14x platinum, movie rights for tons of his songs, and he was selling out huge stadiums. Peak of his fame he was in his early and mid 30s. During this time he wrote he dated, among others, a Harvard freshman, Natalie Portman (age 18), and pre-famous Lana Del Ray.

Portman came out today and basically called him a creepy old man who preyed on her. Said they never dated. But Moby has proof of them hanging out a bunch, so it seems like she's trying to reframe the narrative.

Is it okay for her to lie and have revisionist history about who she dated?

Doesn’t help that the photo he posted on Instagram makes him look not only shirtless, but also older and creepy, while she looks quite embarrassed to be in the picture. Still like some of his songs, though.

I think he purposely chose a quirky weird photo (because he’s quirky and weird) and has plenty of others to choose from. He was allegedly visiting her Harvard dorm while she was a freshman too, so I don’t buy that they weren’t dating. Sounds like she’s trying to co-opt me too movement to rewrite an embarrassing dating history, which is honestly pretty low.

It's weird to assume she's the one who lied. Even if there are photos of them hanging out, it shouldn't negate her memory of him being a creepy old dude. Looking back, I'm sure there are people I hung out with whom I would shortly thereafter have been able to label "creepy" or whatever.

In that picture, he looks under the influence to me. It makes me wonder if he was, if his perceptions of things are inaccurate.

He looks quirky to me but also like he clearly knows her. She doesn’t look uncomfortable. I’m questioning her account bc I agree with the poster who said NP is probably now embarrassed.

if Op believe’s Mobys version, she’s the only person in the universe who does.

It’s weird to assume he is just some creepy old guy. It wouldn’t be ok to call her some thirsty young girl.

+1 And as she looks back at their relationship, she can think he’s a creepy dude, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t date.

In her statement, she specifically acknowledged that they hung out a few times, but she understood it to be as friends and when she realized he was creeping on her, she distanced herself. I don’t know why OP is so determined to misrepresent her statement, but I have a few ideas.

She was 18. He claims she was 20. He was 33. And tres ugly. And looks creepy. Believe her.

I have no idea who this Moby is but I think he probably had sex with her on more than one occasion and dropped her name for man cred yet trying not to shame her and said dated instead. Not being mean, he's not attractive at all, young or old.

Natalie signed her soul away and had to give it up to be somebody. So did the other one he named. She's been a party favor so long she doesn't remember all of them.

I believe him. I also think he should have told her he was going to say what he wrote. Expect an apology from him. Or not.

Creepers always believe other creepers.

Her side of the story rings more true to me, but like many women I have experience with guys spinning a lot more out of polite tolerance than was really there. I don’t doubt that he thinks her putting up with his “let’s be friends!” glomming onto her meant that they were dating.

He describes a dialog with her where she totally disses him and he concludes “not sure if it was meant as an insult but I’ll take it’s a compliment.” Total arrogant, ignorant d-bag. By his own admission.
