Going Rate for Sitter?

Going rate for babysitter in Arlington for one 5 year old? Folks on care.com
Won’t take under $20/hr which seems steep. Especially when gig involves sitting while the kid is in an activity. Not even much childcare.

Find someone who doesn’t live in Arlington. I know people here who have sitters from George Mason or nova for $15.

If it’s only an hour or two, you won’t find $15.

$15 for high school, $18 for a nursing student, $20 for a nanny/daycare provider

Op here. Even if this is a regular gig that’s not sporadic but 9 hours per week?

$20 is what you should expect to pay. It's what we pay for one 6 year old.

Yes. Is it 4.5 hours over two days?

OMG, find someone competent that you can trust,
and ask her what's her rate.
You start there, OP.

Part time regular after school childcare is the hardest to find.

Part-time work like that is expensive; sitters want more because it’s a lot of their time and effort for so few hours. $20/hr is definitely standard in Arlington.

That is the hardest to fill with a reliable person.

Not to mention getting to and from the job in traffic (these jobs are often rush hour). And if the person has anything going on in their life like school, etc expect lots of cancellations.

Agree. I find most parents to be in la-la land regarding the cost of decent childcare.

9 hours at $20 is $180. Get an au pair instead and cut out after care. It will be cheaper and make your life easier.

Except you have to pay way more than just what you pay the Au pair, plus you have a random person living in your house, driving your cAr, etc.

$20 is the going rate. If it’s only 2 hours a day, probably more like $25/hour plus mileage if you want then to drive the kid.
