Except you have to pay way more than just what you pay the Au pair, plus you have a random person living in your house, driving your cAr, etc.

$20 is the going rate. If it’s only 2 hours a day, probably more like $25/hour plus mileage if you want then to drive the kid.

exaclty... au pairs are so expensive.

Op here. Hell no to an au pair. The $200 week is the tip of the iceberg after agency fees, $500 education credit, insurance, room and board, car accidents, broken appliances and furniture, loss of privacy, drama with guests and friends, and getting woken up to your alarm going off at 4am every weekend bc she doesn’t know how to disarm it even 4 months and 4 explanations in. And let’s not forget the 10x she didn’t show up for work or come home and the two times she left the kids unsupervised and a neighbor reported one of the kids nearly missed getting hit by a car. BTDT Never Again.

Oh and I forgot to add the cost of her phone, data, and the cost of replacing my wedding china when she decided to use it and then wash it by hand with Steel wool.

Yeah, no to the au pair. Anyway, have you looked on. Nextdoor? Are you just looking for the summer? I’ve seen some college kids back from college who are looking to babysit.

$20/hour is standard

I have paid $15/hour for a high schooler, but more experienced than that will be higher rate.
