How old for a first facial? Daughter is turning 14

Anonymous
Trying to come up with an idea for my dd's 14th birthday. She's a child that needs or wants for anything really. And I was looking at a reputable spa for a pedicure and saw that they offer a "Teen Facial". Is 14 too young for a facial? I was over 30 when I had my first facial so I just don't know. Thanks.

14 is fine. My oldest got one on vacation at 14. I'm not a facial person but she really wanted one. She liked it.

I think you mean she wants for nothing, not anything.

My first was at 16, but I had bad acne...

Would she enjoy it? I never have, but if she has acne or other skin problems, maybe. Sends a complicated message IMO.

I don't think so at all. Regular facials are part of good skincare. While it doesn't have to be- I do think there is benefit to having a facial regularly and your 14 year old will get some education in how to best care for her skin at home from a professional. And it is relaxing and feels great.

Taking care of your skin is odd?

I give my mom a lot of credit for taking me on my 13th birthday to Merle Norman (it was the 80's!!) to get me started on a skin care regimen. That outing did impact the way I've cared for my skin all these many years later. I think it's a great idea and suggest communicating the facial as establishing good skin care habits rather than "pampering" (though it's really about both). That said, I'd also buy her a Clarisonic and have her use it between facials. I have boys that are on the cusp of puberty, but I plan to take them for facials too, and am already talking to them about skin care (cleaning and moisturizing).

I think it’s fine but don’t think it’s a very good gift. Not really very fun.

I offered my daughter for her 14th birthday a mani-pedi for her and 2 friends...

facials you can do as a part of her regular teen skin treatment- not as a birthday "gift"

I am also taking her to Nordstroms for a bra fitting and a new bra- I think of this as one of the habits I hope she becomes accustomed to- not per se a birthday gift

As a mom of one boy and two girls this is helpful- tell us how turns out.

I went monthly around that age, but I also started at a dermatologist at 12-13 and had some acne and blackheads. I enjoyed it and the extractions helped a bit.

No they're not. while they may feel good, they do nothing to improve your skin.
