I am madly obsessing over waitlist movement and trying to figure out how they work. For example - our number on the Latin waitlist has gone down by nine spots. But the Basis waitlist number has only gone down by one. I assumed that most of the Latin waitlist folks were also on the Basis waitlist? So if they got into Latin off the waitlist, the Basis list should have moved (automatically as seats were accepted and folks dropped off of lower ranked schools) by nine also (or at least a good subset of that number)?
Just killing time spinning mental wheels until things really start to move! |
| Where are you on the waitlists? |
| Same here. Pretty high # though— almost triple digits. So I’m not holding my breath. |

Each school does it differently. Sometimes the registrar will enter each enrollment/declined spot as it happens. Others do it in a batch at the end of the day while others do it every few days.
Without knowing how either Latin or BASIS does it, it's hard to speculate. The other issue that that when your position on waitlist A changes , you don't really know whether someone ahead of you has actually enrolled in school A or whether a person ahead of you has just enrolled elsewhere or given up and removed themselves from the list. |
| I turned down our Basis slot a few days ago. I received confirmation from the school and myschooldc.org confirming so. I bet the list will move quite a bit in a week. |
I agree there will be movement in next week or so. There always is at BASIS. But your number could have been higher (as in worse) than the OP's. So they wouldn't see any change to their position yet. |
| Does anyone know if Latin or Basis offer seats after count day? I have a feeling we will be right on the cusp for Latin. |
|
Same here. Latin has moved 9 spots, Basis just one.
I’ve concluded that the Basis registrar has done diddly, and that someone simply removed themselves from the waitlist. |
This is the PP that you're quoting. DD received a spot via the lottery. We simply turned it down, so that's at least one movement on the WL. My guess is that it will take another week to reflect online, although it shows on the site that we declined. |
| The issue is that Basis has not yet extended offers to folks on the WL. |
|
Just call them. Ask when they will start making WL offers.
I am not surprised. The lottery deadline for accepting seats was end of day Wednesday. BASIS isn't going to its WL until yesterday at the earliest, because they wait to see how big the rising 9th grade will be. Perhaps they have made offers to the first few people on the WL and given them a week to decide. If so, you won't see that until those families accept or decline. |
What is the cusp for Latin? We are mid 20s and I assume we will not get in. |
The list has already gone down by nine, right? That seems like more than last year. Perhaps some of the other up and coming middle schools are having an impact? What is the international one? DCI? |
| ^ Lists can go down because people take themselves off the list or get accepted into higher-ranked choices. The amount of movement on a list does not necessarily equal the number of WL spots offered. |
This is PP and I'm guessing based on last year...we were 23 initially and are now 17 (last I checked anyway) for 5th grade. Does DCI start in 5th or 6th? I was thinking 6th but if not then that could be a factor. |
