Help me with my new iPad and flying and flying with my iPad

Anonymous
I am embarrassed to admit this, but I was given an iPad like a year ago and have never used it once.

But I'm going on a cross-country trip soon, and want to bring it on the plane. I have so many questions though.

1. I am scared it will break. Is there some sort of cover that's like a ... book, that I could enclose it in? I don't just want a front flap over the screen, but a front and back and spine.

2. I don't understand how internet/Netflix works on airplanes. (I fly like once every ten years.) Can I watch Netflix on the iPad, on the airplane? Do I have to download something, or can I just go to the website, log in, and start watching?

2b. Do I have to pay money on the plane to do 2 above? I hear people talk about having Wifi on airplanes. Do I need Wifi to watch Netflix?

Thank you. You can go ahead and laugh at my ignorance - I don't mind. Hopefully flying is still the same as it was ten years ago. Gallon sized ziplock and trial size toiletries.

1. It's called a case.

2. Depends on the airline - but most have paid services where you can get on their wireless for a fee (like $8.95 for the day). But its usually too slow to stream. If you have Amazon Prime I recommend downloading your tv shows/movies before boarding.

2b. Yes, if you're going to use your internet service though certain memberships levels (depending on the airline and companies) can get wireless package free.

Yes, you do need wireless to watch Netflix since the shows/movies aren't downloadable.

I always download some Netflix shows from the app on the Ipad, and then you can watch them off-line. There are some Netflix shows that I don't think you can download, but most you can. Download a season and check to make sure they downloaded properly before you go because occasionally I've had an issue with some episodes of tv shows not being able to play.

Depending on the airline, some airlines have a library to stream movies from. United does on most flights. But, you need to download the united app first.

As for Netflix, many shows allow you to down load the to your device. (same with amazon prime).

1. Yes, a case. What model ipad do you have? Make sure you get the correct sized case for your ipad.

2. Do you have a netflix account?
-Download the netflix app onto your ipad
-once logged in, click on the three lines in the upper left corner
-from that menu, click on "available for download"
-browse shows/movies, and download as many as you'd like
-when you're on the plane, you click on the same three lines and scroll down to "my downloads" to watch the shows. Don't forget headphones!

2b: the wifi on a plane is sometimes free, sometimes not. It will not be strong enough to stream. You're much better off downloading ahead of time.

-not a gallon sized bag. quart sized.

take your ipad to best buy and ask one of the sales associates to help you with the ipad case selection. as there are a ton of options out there, from a small lightweight flip case to an otterbox.
