USNEWS accurate indicator - college readiness

Anonymous
The only good and accurate measurement on USNews ranking is the college readiness indicator. A 70 or higher is good, above 80 is amazing. Below 70 is average, and below 60 is horrible. As you can see, this list is much more accurate. Take into account the schools with magnet programs.

Whitman - 85
Churchill - 81.8
Poolesville - 81.7
Wootton - 80.5
RM - 73
QO - 72.1
BCC - 71.1
WJ - 70.6
Sherwood - 63.6
Northwest - 58.6
Blair - 55.7
Magruder - 54.8
Rockville - 53.1
Damascus - 50.1
Wheaton - 50.2
Einstein - 48.4
Blake - 50.1

Surprise Whitman is on top again! Poolesville seems like it is in the place it should be.

It's actually a fairly useless measurement, because it just tells you the percentage of 12th grade students that took and passed AP/IB exams.

For most of us on this board, our kids would meet that standard regardless of what school they attend. I'm much more interested in knowing how those types of students perform in different MCPS high schools, and this measurement gives you zero insight on that.

It's complete BS. Whitman is a GS 4 based on its low test scores. This is a joke.

And does this correlate with the FARMS rate?

Data is meaningless unless you analyze it. What's worse is that it has been analyzed and yet, you're still just looking at that number.

How do they calculate college readiness? I need to look into that. Curious.

4 out of 10 seems to indicate it's not that great.

You should also take into account the school size.

+1 This indicator is a reflection of SES.
https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/articles/rankings-faq
College readiness (30% of the ranking): The percentage of 12th graders from the class of 2016-2017 who took at least one AP or IB exam during high school and the percentage of 12th graders who passed at least one AP or IB exam in high school. Passing is weighted three times more than taking.

LOL. That's overall US News ranking is a pretty different list from OP's "highly accurate" college readiness index indicator. OP-do your kids go to Churchill? Sorry it didn't make the top 10.

It also fosters harmful stereotypes about the value of segregated schools.
