Alcohol is a drug

I think we are doing our teens a disservice by not being clear that alcohol is a drug. Weed and alcohol are both illegal until 21 in DC. Then they are both legal for recreational use. But treating alcohol as different from “drugs” leads kids to believe it’s not a drug.

I agree that attitude towards alcohol as a drug is different from other drugs. Some people are unaware of how dangerous it can be. I was never a big drinker and didn’t try many things when I was younger. My home no one drank or smoke anything. If you didn’t see the disease that alcoholism is, you may not be guarded against it. I have learned much more about it from people sharing experience here than I ever did from what I saw around me. Just how things panned out for me.

If I had to pick between my kid being a weed smoker or being an alcoholic, I'd have to grudgingly pick weed smoker. Who are the people you know who aren't warning their kids about alcohol?

Except that alcohol is not mind-altering.
You can drink one glass of wine (as an adult) and be A-Ok, and yet if you smoke a bit of pot or eat a gummy you’re f’ed up. So, alcohol does not equal pot. People are getting very comfy with pot and forget how strong it is these days. Trust me, I know, lol

Having been around people who overindulge in alcohol, it's way more districtivr than pot. I say this as someone who doesn't smoke pot and never has. I have too many friends who drink a few glasses of wine and think it's just wine and will drive. I think most pot smokers know they are under the influence. A lot of casual drinkers don't. I don't want my kids doing either but I think I'm more sensitive to alcohol because I know someone who drove drunk and killed a father driving home with his kids. It really stuck with me because this person who did this was someone who was alway kind and generous to everyone around him. He ruined his life, and took away the husband and father from his family. You can't ever fix that.

Addrtal os speed, but no one seems to have a problem giving that to their kids. Time and place for everything.

Have not smoked in 20 years, is it really a lot stronger? Asking as son does.

Are you for real? Have you ever gotten drunk?
Of course, it is mind-altering. Depending on your tolerance, even one glass of alcohol can make you f'ed up. Most people aren't visually impaired by one glass of wine, but ethanol definitely screws up your brain.
