How many #s to notice a difference?

Anonymous
I was about 30lb overweight, lost 15 so far. I honestly don’t see a difference at all, not even in clothing. Husband says I look a little slimmer in the middle, but I don’t see it or feel it.

When did you start noticing?

have you been taking progress pictures or measurements?

I am similar to you, 30 lbs to lose and I have have lost 15lbs so far. When i lost about 12lbs was when people started to comment that I looked like I had lost weight.

I think it depends on numerous factors though. Like where you carry your weight. I noticed my weight loss in my measurements first (hips, waist, chest). I went down a cup size, (I have a large chest) and a full pant size after losing about 10 lbs.

I think it also depends on how you are losing weight. If losing by diet/calorie restriction alone you will lose some muscle along with the fat and it will take longer to notice. I am losing by diet and also lifting heavy. I credit the lifting to my decrease in measurements. I have been lifting for 6 months now and it has taken me that long to lose the 15lbs. Some of that was over the holidays so that slowed things down. However, even when my weight didn't change much my measurements were still going down.

Now in terms of progress pictures. It took me until recently/15lbs to notice the change in my progress pictures and even then I don't see a huge difference.

13:43 again.

Also in terms of seeing it in clothing I think it depends on the type of clothing you wear. I noticed it first in my work pants because they are more fitted/structured/have no stretch and after about 7 lbs I could no longer wear any of them because they were huge and looked sloppy. however, i have some jeans with more stretch that I can still wear even after losing 15 lbs. I only notice they are getting big because there is a little more room in the waist and while they are still fitted looking in the waist/butt they slip down. i need to get some new "in progress" pairs this weekend.

I notice a few pounds. As in 3 or 4 make my pants fit differently. Over 5 and I can have pant size (my stomach is the thing that changes). Now in tops it takes at least 10 pounds to notice a difference.

Maybe you just lost gradually so you got used to the changes?

I notice 3 or 4 pounds. How can you not notice 15? That should easily be a whole dress size.

I've lost 5 lbs recently and can see and feel a difference. My clothes fit better and some are getting loose. Other people notice and have commented as well.

are you already at an ideal weight? The smaller you are, both in terms of weight and height, the less you need to lose to notice it. It's the same reason a tall woman can gain 10 lbs without anyone noticing, but if a 5'2"woman did that she would go up a few sizes. but, I do agree that OP should be able to notice 15lbs in some clothing, especially if she "only" has 30lbs total to lose. Now if she said she said she was very overweight and had say 50 lbs to lose then I could see not noticing 15lbs so much.

I've lost about 7 lbs in the past 3 months. I've gone down a bra cup and band size and a pants size. But, I didn't have a tone of weight to lose.

I’m short, 30lbs over, and I notice 5lbs, especially in my face and how clothes feel. No one else would notice. At 8lbs people might notice but wouldn’t say anything. Clothes would be looser. 15lbs is significant and would definitely drop one FULL size and people would tell me how amazing I look.

I lost 30 pounds a few years ago. At 15 lbs I dropped a size. At about 25 lbs I dropped 2 sizes and a few people commented. The best was trying on my old size 14 clothes and having them literally fall off. So keep a few things just as a reminder.

I’ve lost 30 and no one has noticed. I has to buy small clothes and still no one has said anything.

I do have 50 to go.

Wow, good for you!! I bet you look great. People may not say anything but they definitely notice!

Depends how tall you are. I'm tall so I don't start to feel a difference till around 10 pounds. Its noticeable around 20 pounds.

I’ve lost about 12 and I could tell when I tried on dresses At Nordstrom last weekend. Nobody else has noticed though. I’m 5’8 and currently at 150 down from 162-3. I’d like to get below 140. Been stuck here a while but I’m hoping it’s temporary. I was once about 120 (in my 20s) but I’m now 54 and not delusional about my prospects.

OP, don't go for "noticed", except for yourself. On the flip side it's nice when others aren't scrutinizing if you gain. They just notice you for you.
