What do you consider an old car.

This. I am not talking about antiques, not about classic cars or anything like that. Let's say it is just a car that someone in the family or someone you are talking to drops in the conversation or you are driving on a highway and see a car and you know it has been around for decade..s.

At what point you think the car is and old car? Is it

8 years
10 years
12 yaars
15 years
20 years
25 years?
30 or more?..

As in we are now in 2019, so let's say if you se a car that looks like 2005 is this car old car to you or not, considering that you know very well that this type of body stands out because nothing much like that is around anymore?

I think it depends. For a range rover 3 years is old. For a Toyota is might be 15. Really it's a "when does stuff start breaking and cost a lot to fix" in my mind.

Alfa Romeo - 30 minutes
Any GM product - 2 years
Ford - 4 years
German luxury - 5 years
VW - Breaks immediately but ironically can be new at 6 years
Honda - 8 years
Toyota - 10 years

The only car bodies I recognize as old are the 1980s and 1990s Volvo sedans and Subarus that I recognize from my youth. And I notice Saturns. But I couldn't tell you how a 2001 Toyota differs from a 2019.

If I'm buying or driving, anything without a backup camera is old.

We have a mid 90's car running strong. That's old.

We have a 2005 that has had issues since driving off the lot.. that's old. Anything 2010 and newer is not that old. Keep cars at least 10-12 years.

8-12 years, not that it bothers me. Our oldest car is a 2011 and my husband drives it to the metro and back, less than 25 miles a week. I assume we’ll keep it until the maintenance cost doesn’t make sense.

Also I am old (40) and not a car person - I don’t pay attention to what car bodies are in style. The most distinctive car shape I can think of that would look old to me is the distinctive angular shape of a Saab 9000 from the late 80s and early 90s.

10 years or 100,000 miles.

Yes, someone who drives 25K miles a year will have an old car in 4 years. It's all about the wear and tear on the car.

I have a 2012 with 100k miles that I consider to be current. It's a luxury brand and the current models look just like mine. Hope to drive it for several more years. I have a 2013 BMW with 50k miles that is starting to fall apart and we are looking to replace it. That one seems old even though it's our newest car. I have a 2006 car with 100k miles and that one is definitely old.

Over 10 years or over 100k miles is like early retirement 62. If a good car, it can easily go extra 4-5 years if no major problems.

8 years is definitely old. Mine is almost 6, and I can tell a huge difference from when new.

What's your 2012?

My cars are 2006 (86k) and 2003 (35k). We just don’t drive. The cars are old. Very old. But the bodies will likely go before they have enough mileage to get rid of them.

My Jeep YJ from early 90s, with historic tags.

My daily driver 2005 Toyota Matrix, going strong still with 65000 miles!

That's me too! And they're theft proof really. Who would want them?!
